I was trying to phrase his kicking with a word. I ended up grouping him and others and using the word 'poorish'. You are right in that his kicking isnt bad in terms of accuracy . But he does have 'poor' penetration'.

The player type that you're talking about as unfashionable is an interesting one for me, as I think the game is moving to structures of inside and outside specialists, where versatility isn't as crucial. I suppose it's concerns about defence and the inability to stop fast breaks from the powerful mids who can burst from congestion?

Simple for Mitchell get Ball and get it to N Daicos/Pendles
Richmond did go after Taranto and Hopper. They might be a bit quicker than Mitchell though
Yeah I thinking about writing something like this but I didnt have the time. Plus I think you phrased it better then I could have.
Losing Cotchin and with Prestia struggling with injury Richmond were lacking inside grunt. It was the only thing that stopped them winning that game against Brisbane. Even so their game style of years didnt really rely on clearences. Maybe they feel they will do better with more inside players. But they could also lose some spreading power.

Exactly, people don’t realise but from 2016-2021 he was 2nd for inside mid kicking efficiency, had the most inside mid time and the only one better was Macrae. Who spent much less time as an inside mid.

After turning to youth in Sam Mitchell’s first year at the helm last season, the Hawks again shedded experience in the trade period just gone. Tom Mitchell, Jack Gunston and Jaeger O’Meara departed in trades, while Ben McEvoy and Liam Shiels announced their respective retirements.
30-year-old key defender Kyle Hartigan was also delisted, leaving Luke Breust as the club's oldest player at 31, the only player on the club's list on the wrong side of 30.
While Crawford supports former teammate Mitchell, he hopes his former club hasn’t made a big mistake.

I was speculating as to why he was not worth a lot in terms of a trade. My theory was that his style of player has gone out of vogue with most coaches. I suggested that slow players with interesting kicking skills are not the type of player that a coach wants because everyone needs to chase like a manic and with ball in hand cut through defenses.
Edit: Personally I think Tom is perfect for us.

He racks up the footy at will inside and on the spread and thus does kick it a lot. It's a non issue as his kicking is fine, but he will kick the ball more often than most in the team next year.
