Just thought Id get in early to see people's thoughts on this game. In my opinion it is a huge danger game. It is always a close game down there Vs hawthorn with the Hawks winning by 3 points in 2003 and us winning by 4 points last year. I think we really need to win this game because the following week we play St.Kilda at Subiaco which will be massive especially with Riewoldt back. But as of this week the players we need to stop are Crawford, Vandenberg, Hodge and Everitt who all seem to play well against us every time. Our midfield should win out and coz It is at Aurora Stadium which is the biggest ground in the AFl the hawks wil struggle to flood the game.

My Opinion West Coast to win by 11 points :) .

Nathan Thompson was the main goal scorer last year against us at York Park and he's gone to the Roos. Lekkas was also quite good against us last year, but he's out for the season.

Mark Williams is is good form; Chick would be a good match for him.

Coxy beat Everitt in the ruck on stats last year and with Seaby and Gardi along, it will give us some depth in that department.

Glass against Franklin. Hunter on Thurgood ?

Stenglein will help against Crawf.

Aurora is a big ground (I thought it was the same dimensions as Subi ??) so will suit us well.

Hawks are not to be taken lightly, however we are adopting our game plans well and we'll win by 3-4 goals.

I don't think that would be a good match up as Franklin is too athletic for Glass and there's no need for a player like Glass, who can take a foward out of a game for long periods of time, to be wasted when Franklin takes himself out of games, at times, with his inconsistency. I'd like to see Staker on Franklin, both are simular players, Staker has more experience and Franklin more talent.

Who would Glass pick up then ?

I thought of that one on a size basis.

I think Glass will take Everitt when he's resting at FF otherwise I think he'll play on the Hawthorn CHF, whoever he is now that Barker is injured, as long as he's a tall, Beaumont maybe.

With Williams as Hawthorns FF, most of the time, Glass won't be playing there, I hope someone like Chick or Wirrpunda can curb his influence.

Geese we are going to want Fletch to get up considering we are playing one of the form sides of the comp

Has anyone got any news on him?

1-5 is considered a form side?

Only a danger game because the Hawks are sitting in 15th. We have better players all over the ground and realistically they dont beat us in any aspects of the game. A loss would result only if we failed to follow the game plan and fell to peices.

That being said, i have seen the Eagles do just that and lose to much inferior sides.

West Coast by 17.

For the most part they've actually been playing good hard competitive footy. They just can't sustain it for 4 quarters.

There's a few more dangers than that:

- Long flight
- 1 less days rest between last game
- Slog in wet against Swans
- Away game in Tasmania

I think we'll win but an upset isn't impossible and I can't say I'd lose a lot of sleep over it if we lost. St Kilda the week after will be a real test.

I am confident that the boys will win this game well in the midfield as well as shut down the dangerous Williams. By restricting their supply to Williams we can get on top and just play an attacking style of footy using the vast advances of Arora. Matera will revel in this game and the ruck duel between Cox and Spider will go along way in the outcome of this match

Matera will be well held, as will Hanson, with Croady likely to add him to his bitches this year.
Dont underestimate our midfield, we all know yours is quality, but if Spida gets first hands on the ball, Mitchell is dangerous. Crawf and Bateman are in form too....
Williams to kick 5...

Other than that, we will lose.

Wow. Matera and Hansen will be well held, Williams to kick 5 and your still going to lose.

If that's going to be the case I'm tipping Lynch to kick 8. :D

I just think that Chicky in great form will not have the pace to match it with Williams; ala Welsh from Adelaide. I personally think that Williams is going to be very hard to match up on. Can't play Wirra as it robs us of a very good rebounder, Banners hasn't the pace. Nicoski might get a recall. Tough one to work out.

As for Stinger. I also believe that he will be significant but I like him on Ball as he seems to be the main in and under for them. I've also said since prior to actually signing Stinger that he will be a big difference for us and this is proving absolutely paramount.
The form of negaters who can also win the footy like Chick and Stinger are big reasons why we are doing so well.

what should be interesting is how the midfield goes this week when they are not getting first use. crawf is no simon black and stinger should rack up another kill on the season. while the hawks have a great stoppage game, ours is great too, and i really think the hard run of our midfielders is going to run rings around the hawks in general field play

eagles by 3 goals

I would start Glass or B Jones on Williams, yeah Chick could struggle against Williams,
still quietly confident on the game, tuff yeah but Hawthorn do have lapses thats were the Eagles will get on top.

4 goal win to the Eagles. To much eveness across the board.

I think we will win.

Banfield to take on Williams. Some say he doesnt have the pace to go with Williams but when we play Freo, Banners always takes on Farmer and Farmer is just as quick if not quicker than Williams.

Banfield will do the job.

Why would one of our pacier defenders struggle against Williams?

I would expect the eagles to win by 12 goals as they are a class above the hawks and the hawks are due for a spanking after having their confidence dented further by the loss to carlton.
I would love to see the battle between cox and everitt but alas I wont get to see the game.

Agreed.

The thing with Williams though is that he requires pretty good delivery, a midfielder can't just bomb away to the square and expect him to out muscle anyone so even though he's kicked a lot of goals this year he's not as dangerous as he seems.

He'll probably kick 10 now :(

There is no way that Farmer is quicker than Williams - not to say that the pace between the two is large enough to make the difference but Williams is also a lot taller than Farmer. This is why Williams plays as the Full Forward and Farmer plays as a pocket.

Williams will be very hard to match up on - Chick for mind is the most possible but the Welsh moment was scary and the O'Loughlan was divine.
I think this is why Williams has succeeded as a FF because he is a totally different style of FF to the rest.
