No one saw this coming, last few minutes of trade week we've made a sensational draft pick trade!

GC receive: Richmonds end of round 1 compo pick

Richmond receive: Pick #26 and a round 2 comp pick.

Gutsy trade, IMO could pay off, sees us upgrade our current draft position and my gut says this could be smart considering how many picks will be activated next year ... our round 1 compo was really losing it's value.

Yeah, pretty happy with this. Get another young kid on the list a year earlier, and we still have a chance to target someone with the 2nd round compo next year, probly in the mid to high 40s - basically an extra mid 3rd rounder I guess.

could be top 25 in 2013, presuming Port sucks for a while yet

No idea what the 2013 draft looks like. Probably learning to shave about now

Is the Krakouer compo pick mid or end of Rd 2??

Next years draft is an amazing draft and we just traded down our priority pick :thumbsd: for a compo pick that is 18 spots or more lower than the original pick and for an average pick in this years national draft that no one wants a part of . This is the sort of thing Richmond do to try and get the supporters of the scent of a another failed trade period and this last minute trade is nothing more than another stuff up IMHO.

I think after the second round selection of the initial recipient (Port).

Actually I am not positive about this. Dunno.

Hope that helps
Other thread confirms it comes after Port's 2nd rounder. I am now pro-tanking (for Port :p)

We come out massive winners in this IMO, I much prefer a pick directly after your pick then an end of round pick.

Depends who initiat it, but my guess is we decided that we ( in effect ) wanted to use the compo pick this year, so taded it for a 'real' pick around the same level (actually a bit better than it would have been).

Lets hope at least one the players we expect to be around there are still there.

Assuming we intend to ue the Morton pick, that mean we'll use 5 picks
(+psd/rookie elevations)

surly in this case given port willl be rubish next year the difference between our old bock compo and new second round compo will only be around 10 places.

pick 26 this year for a 10 place decline from approximately 25 to 35 next year in a draft with DEPTH seems like a great trade.

my numbers are proberbly wrong though?

Yeah but a pick is not a pick unless you pick the eyes out of a pick. :D

its our pick now not Ports should have nothing to do with them - should be straight after our 2nd rounder

Incorrect. Port's position determines the point at which this pick is crystallised. I actually rang TWR earlier last week, and they said they had confirmed this very issue with Anderson the previous day

Don't think it's a stuff up. Considering how adamant we were about not trading our compo pick, Craig Cameron and co must've really thought this was a great deal.

We need to take risks to get that 11th premiership and this could be one of them that pays off.

Think of it like this;

-We gain 26 this year
-Our compo (if activated next year alongside the loads of others) would sit at about 25-30

-This new compo (which I believe is a mid 2nd round and if activated in 2013 draft) will probably sit in a similar area as the one we traded EXCEPT used a year later.

So effectively, provided we use it in 2013, we've gained pick 26 for nothing.

Yes I know you're all going to go 'oh Martin#4 it's a superdraft next year'.

2 things
-Next year is going to be heavily compromised with alot of clubs cashing in compos, 2013 PROBABLY not so much.
-2013 could easily be a very good draft

Plus, every 2-3 years after the Judd draft has been touted as a 'superdraft', the word is thrown around way too much.

I reckon we may hold it a while. From memory end of first rounders go in order of who holds the pick while picks directly after come after the initial sides pick. If we end up top 4 in a couple of years and Port are bottom 4 its likely to be about 5 places max.

Chances are almost all of the existing compo picks will be exercised next year.

So, in 2013, the compo could be a much better pick, but I have no idea about what 2013 is looking like as a crop

bonus, as Port will clearly finish lower than us next season :D
