Bate and Bail would be livid... especially Bate, who plays roughly the same possie and is already an angry red-head.
We can only hope it's a farewell game... although AAMI would have to be the worst possible place to get picked for a goodbye (good riddance) game.

Let's engage the brain people.
1. He was serviceable as a back up ruck when he played earlier this year
2. He's replacing Paul Johnson, who isn't exactly a superstar himself and was pretty average against the hawks
3. PJ might need to be qualified for Casey finals (same with Bail)
4. Bate and Bail aren't back up ruckmen

Bail is amazingly stiff to get dropped. With Juice playing it tells me that it's the end of the line for Johnson.

Or perhaps the thing about Bate and Bail is that they are contracted or are deemed to be part of the future of the club and in turn have agreed to step aside in order for Juice to have one final crack at saving himself before he's delisted.

I reckon it was without doubt Bail's best game for the club last weekend and I tend to agree with the notion that he needs to qualify for Casey. If we beat the Hawks last week and the finals' dream was still a good chance, the only changes would have been Moloney in for Davey and probably Warnock for MacDonald. I don't think it is the end of the line for Johnson, he still offers something as an experienced back-up, moreover I think it is the end of the line for Newton but why they are giving him a game for the sake of it has me scratching my head. Probably out of pity. One of the worst players we have had for the past few years if you ask me. Takes every third mark he goes for and can't kick. Very good to see Warnock back. Disappointing that Bate couldn't get a game but Morton did. These are the selection quanderies we are going to have in the future.

Guys take a breath it is experiment time of the year!
They maybe trying Newton as Ruckman / Forward, a role some say maybe the go if interchange changes proposed for next year come off. These changes maybe the death knell of the second ruckman.
We know Bail is good, I am sure he would have been told they are experimenting and he is just the stiff one this week.

We didn't even let 90% of our players play in the Casey finals last year. I doubt we'd start dropping them this year to qualify.
I don't mind giving Newton a shot but I cannot understand why Bail has been dropped, especially when Bennell has done far less over the past couple of weeks.

That must be due to preparation for finals and the 12-10 rule. Shame I thought/hoped that Fitzy would be one of the 12 who plays Casey finals. But at the same time he needs a shoulder op (according to his Q&A the other day).

that is the worst comment i have ever seen on bigfooty.. even the bay.. you are a disgrace.. sorry.. but 'fitzy' has absolutely no right play at AFL, he just isnt a good football player, simple as that. was taken pick 50 in a weak draft, cant kick cant mark has no skills.. is just moderately quick and very tall...

Jeez you're negative a lot. The recruiting staff were absolutely astounded to get him with a pick that late and were actually considering taking him earlier. Sure, he may not be ready for AFL footy yet, but give the guy a break. Ever heard of Dean Cox? From all reports he started as a footy ****** and is now an AA ruckman.

It's his first year, he's also recovered from injury and had to overcome Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Also, the "late draft pick" argument doesn't fly. By that logic, Johnson and Newton should be miles ahead of Jamar in the ruck.
Jack Watts would make a better back up ruck than Newton.
