So this is how our government spends our tax money. Its a ****en disgrace and Alston should be asked to stand down.

Imagine what the money could have been used for??

Smartarse..i thought it was a valid rant. :p

Back to the topic at hand..

the fact that an overseas Multi-national charged that amount makes me mad. I know, including myself, a few designers/developers who would have designed a better functioning site than that crap for 1/3 of that price.

$1.2 Million spent on website development
$956,000 spent on hosting and support services
$928,000 spent on software; and
$661,000 spent on hardware.

What a joke!

The Power From Port costs approx.
$0.00 spent on development - just lots of time
$80.00 spent on hosting
$200.00 spent on software
$3,000.00 on hardware

The government has a lot to answer for. As soon as people know it's a govt job they jack up the prices. I remember hearing about a private bathroom in a govt office that cost around $65,000 to upgrade. At the time you could build a whole house for that price. It makes you feel sick paying taxes for them to just throw it away like that.

Don't worry, they probably only used Frodo's taxes from the last 4 years. :D

the software they used, Vignette, cost about $800,000 of that 900k. It's essentially a simple brochure site!! No real interactive content, no e-commerce, no secure login section etc. What a waste.

RWO costs for 2003:

hosting: $400
domain name: $30
design & maintenance: about 1-5 hours of my life every day
about $3000 in pirated software :D
about $6000 in hardware

I reckon I could have written an entire content management system in a year and still charged them less than 100,000 for it! :) Talk about being ripped off. No flash content, not much in the way of scripting, nothing fancy AT ALL.

Actually the search functionality is the best part of it. If you type in "alston", it returns a page saying no matches have been found! :D

Frodo hasnt even posted in this thread, so why are you having a dig??

you really are a strange person

She's strange to you because you have no idea what she's talking about.

I do, and it was funny. :D

It just doesnt make sense does it Des. I honestly thought the these super budgets died with the dot com era.

I cant see how Alston could justify this waste of money!!

If you didn't understand the joke, that's not everybody else's problem.

Hardly suprising. Considering his the biggest ****wit luddite ever to be in charge of Communictaions. I noticed they left out the bill on those meetings the government had on how to, get this, eradicate spam.

As for what bomberblitz.com costs, I wouldn't know. I blow my share on cocaine.
