After todays poor result and looking at the draw for us West Coast and Hawthorn our top 4 cances are starting to look alot slimmer.

What is the likelehood of us still finishing in the top 4 now ?

Very little chance.

Hawthorn & WCE have easier draws then us.

This was a game we needed to win, now we rely heavily on the fortunes of the Hawks & Eagles.

Hawthorn and WCE both have easier runs home. Today would've given us some breathing space. We will be out of the top 4 after next week and will not get back in. I'm bitterly dissapointed over today's loss.

IMO we have to win at least 2 of Coll, Freo (away) and Hawthorn to be a chance.

And thats assuming we dont drop games we should win against sides who have troubled us in the past like Saints, Essendon and North.

Melbourne game is just about our only certainty the way I see it.

Top 4 chances are just about gone going by that.

They are great if we go undefeated from here:rolleyes:.

That just means we need to beat the Pies next week, then a resurgent Essendon after that and later down the track the Dockers over there, then the Hawks here before finishing with St.Kilda after a bye who are hitting form also, not impossible but highly unlikely!!!!!

Afraid of sounding like a broken record (or CD for some our our younger members)......
None,
Zero,
Zip,
Nada,
Ziltch...................

Need to win maybe 3 more games to ensure we finish 5th or 6th to get a home final. We will get pulverised next week if we put up another effort like that.

Don't worry guys we play both Hawks and WCE, so may be able to help you out. The Eagles game is at Etihad and I'm tipping our guys will be fired up for that one. The Hawks we play at MCG so I'm not so sure. All depends on how straight Buddy kicks.

Assuming Carlton don't make the top 4 and West Coast replace them in 4th - would u rather finish 5th or 6th?

If 5th u might have to travel to Perth in the Semi's however if u finish 6th u still get a home final and will most likely stay in Melbourne to face Geelong or Hawthorn.

Top 4? lol we haven't beaten any decent teams this year, we are soft, front runners. Disgraceful effort today, the signs were there after the West Coast game, Bulldogs demolished us in a similar way. When we still have front running passengers in the team you expect to get beaten by decent teams like the Dogs.

So all they have been talking about is winning one final? lol what a joke, so if they do win one final then that's it then for them I am guessing, as their goal would have been achieved?

If we keep this up we might as well not bother. We are still a chance for top four and are good enough to get there at our best...

If we are good enough we will finish there, but with our run home and the run the teams around us have, you'd think we'd finish between 5-6. Which isn't ideal, with the Dogs and Saints finding form we could run into one of those 2 first week.:( or essendon, who would just love to shove it up us and end our season.

Our goal should be to build a premiership side winning a final wii be a buyproduct of that, winning a final this year is neither here nor there the board need to see we are getting closer to a flag, at this stage the jury is out.

We need to get out of this bullshit Etihad deal, worst ground for longer term player welfare and after playing it 5 out of the last six weeks it's clear we're battered from it.

With only two more games at Etihad for the year ( plus the bye after the last one vs Hawthorn) that might be ideal in player management. The past 4 weeks of that has been appalling and has cost us games.

We probably won't win against Collingwood, the best scenario for us would be to chop the margin from the start of the year down even further. Beating Essendon can happen and we should do enough to account for North, Melbourne and Fremantle depending essentially on Freo's injury list at the time as I think that has cost them wins to challenge for the top 4 as well. Hawthorn? I can't answer I just hope Buddy forgets to tackle the week before ;)

Carlton v St Kilda may be the most important. We could be playing for a top 4 finish,, they could also be playing for a finals place in general.

It's possible, shit Geelong has just dropped 2 in a row and no one has said they're done. We're not dead yet. So anything ( POSITIVE) can happen.

Wow, it's amazing how quickly some people jump off the bandwagon. I was at the game today and yeah, it wasn't great, but our class has shone through this year and I firmly believe we will rebound and rebound well.

In all honesty, I'm getting tired of all the top 4 talk, having to constantly justify ourslelves as contenders and who we are better than and who we aren't. Every week we won, the whole week you had people going on about us being contenders, now we have a rough few weeks and we're not anymore apparently. All that matters to me is how we go in Sept and I have no doubt we can match it with the best once we're there.

We'll know at the end of the next three weeks.

West Coast travel down here twice to play St. Kilda and the Western Bulldogs, who both play Etihad really well. They also have the Derby in between, and like Port in the Showdowns, Fremantle have a knack of knocking off West Coast when the chips are down.

If West Coast can win two out of the next three, and Carlton lose to Collingwood as expected, it's going to be a very tough task to make fourth.

In first week of finals
5th play 8th
6th play 7th

If carlton finish 5th or 6th they will get a home final.

I think he was assuming we win our first final.

Fwiw i'd rather play Hawthorn than wce (away) but can only guess where they'll finish up.

I understand what you're saying, But the thing is Carlton haven't shown they can beat anyone that lays down a decent challenge besides Sydney. Lets face it being a fan of Carlton we have suffered some painful losses in the past 2 years of finals, And i think we were just getting our hopes up of being able to have a real crack in the finals series, finish in the top 4 & challenge the other top contenders, but so far we have shown we can smash the bottom 8 sides and struggle against the top sides.
