I don't know if I like the tactic! Putting so many experienced players up for grabs (Bolton, Schnieder, Buchanan) and also exchanging draft picks for players (Mattner for pick 28, Tenace and pick ...)

Are Sydney supporters satisfied with this?

I'm of the opinion that only a select few players in our team should not be considered for trade given the right deal.

The players in question all had below average seasons this year and despite all 3 being sentimental favourites of mine for various reasons we have to build for success and look to get every possible advantage we can.

If any of them are let go too cheaply I won't be happy but I certainly don't have a problem with them being offered up as trade bait. Even if they don't get traded, they have been sent a fairly clear message that they need to lift next season.

Im personally not a fan. Both Buchanan and Schnieder are still quite young and the Swans should not be getting rid of young talented players and as far as Jude Bolton goes i have always imagined that he would finish his career with the Swans and its unsettling to think he may be traded.

Not keen on trading Buchanan or Schneider at all. And I doubt any Bolton deal will go ahead - I simply can't think of someone that will offer the asking price for him. I doubt we'll trade Bolton for any thing less than a early second rounder.

BUt Roos might bite at a second for either Buchanan or Schneider - if that happens I'll be filthy - I think Schneider and Buchanan will offer us a lot in the next few years.

I'd be wanting a fair bit more than a 2nd round draft pick for someone like Jude. He didnt have the greatest year but he is certainly worth way more than a 2nd round pick. Hoping to see him stay.

If we are just talking about draft-pick, I really doubt anyone is willing to offer a first round pick for Jude. He is after all a 28 year old, unflashy type of player. He's courageous alright, but that's likely to be reflected on match day rather than in the trading market.

Chances are Jude will more than likely stay I think (especially if Roos is holding out for the first round pick/good player).

Personal, I believe that throwing up those names are just Roos playing games. If he could claim a good pick or deal, then he would be stupid to ignore the offer but I reckon its just a reality check for the players that have been highlighted to knuckle down and play well this year.

Sydney should be targeting a tall forward in this draft due to the aging forward line and Lauchie Henderson would be a great pick up for them but could be gone in the top 10. If they could improve on their first pick (11??) with a trade of Bolton (Pick 11 and Bolton for a pick 4 - 6), then they should and then pick up Henderson.

Ive kinda been thinking the same thing today. I couldnt really imagine Roosy getting rid of any of the players mentioned as trade bait, but you never know, crazier things have happened. We shall see.

In theory he could put 20 players up for trade, but only one or maybe two deals are going to get done.

What we have done this year is consistent to the previous 12 years, we will always look to off load our second pick (or first for the right player) to attract a player to the club that will hopefully address a structural issue within the list. This year it is Mattner who brings some pace and adequate disposal skills to play either midfield or half back.

We will then look to take the best talented youngster left at our fist pick (11, which could be Rance) and then later in the draft try for a bottom aged player in the hope we are getting someone this year who might have been worth more next year with another year of development.

While some clubs seem to think that early draft picks are the only way to go, our club looks to a cross section of suitable player trades or picks, national draft selections and full use of the rookie list to build a team.

And who can blame them, we have played in 10 out of the last 12 finals series for 4 preliminary finals, 3 grand finals and 1 premiership.

So in short I am very happy with the way the club is currently run.

It is a different method in AFL standards but common in NRL! Not many clubs in the NRL recruit heavy on younger players, instead they approach experienced players to replace positions, hence the reason why so many

NRL players play for numerous clubs through out their careers.
However, its just a little concerning when quality, key position players are starting to get older ie. Everitt, Hall, O'Lauchlan etc. So when these guys retire, will they simply trade to replace them or draft replacements?

Sorry for the cliche, but everyone is tradeable. It's only ever about the right deal and , hopefully, about treating players who have served you so well with a heap of respect.

i don't agree with Sydney's approach of not taking a small step back and investing more in younger players for next year. But now that Roos and Co have made the decision to go with this core group again, you'd expect the club to be agressive about trading. Seems they are doing that and are also being extremely daring as they go about it. It's hard to complain.
