Question is in the title. We all at this point have hope that our team is going to do well the next year, but no matter how one eyed we all are we also know that things can go pear shaped very quickly as well.
So with that in mind, what are you hoping for in regards to your team in 2026, whether it be a team performance, or individual performances and also what are you worried might happen with your team, perhaps a weakness in your team that you feel could get exploited, or a player with a bit of a history of injury going down again?
For me I am hopeful Sydney can make the top 4 in 2026. 2025 was definitely a down year but we were missing Gulden for most of the season plus not having a Key Forward definitely did not help. Now we are slowly phasing out players like Rampe and Lloyd, Gulden should be in the team the entire year this year, meaning the Warner/Heeney/Gulden combination should be working better and having a proper key forward in Curnow should make our forward entries far more dangerous. I feel like we are a better team in 2026 than we were in 2025.
Now for what I am worried about, I feel like our key defensive stocks are still pretty weak. We drafted Serong but he is not a magic bullet to our issues back there and I feel like in the clearances Sydney's midfield isn't always great, in fact in the big games they have turned to water too many times and we have not really addressed that between the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The only hope is a player like Sheldrick will continue to improve in that area.
Also deep down I suspect no matter how good Sydney may get in 2026 I feel like Brisbane's top level will be higher than anything we can produce, though if Brisbane has an off day who knows. I also think Gold Coast's midfield is bloody scary in 2026 and when they start firing not many teams will be able to go along with them, certainly I don't think Sydney's midfield can.
