Read Shuggie Bain, what won the Booker.

Good book. Not worthy of the Booker though.

Moved stuff out of my storage unit, and grabbed this out at random. Published after the 1995 season. No doubt intended as a light read focusing on footy's failures, but most of the anecdotes had been done to death even in 1995, and there are so many spelling/editing errors that the book should induct itself.

The Things They Carried

Had it on the shelf for ages and I've heard incredible things, so I thought I should finally get around to it.

I have already read Herodotus. A fascinating and truly exceptional people the Persians.
I know you know this, and it's not what you meant, but Herodotus made everything sound fascinating and exceptional, what with all those flying snakes and gold-digging ants the size of dogs!
I like Thucydides' little swipe, where he says WTTE of "my history might be boring at times, but that's because everything in it is true".

Can’t believe I only just found this thread. I asked for book recommendations in the media and entertainment thread.

Just finished killing Thatcher and Babel.

Just started the second apocalypse series by Bakker.

I mostly do audiobooks.

I have a large Fantasy collection. Gimme a chance tomorrow and l'll give some recomm's.

I finally stumbled across the grimdark genre.

I want it dark and full of treachery. I want something that’ll have me peal clutching. Doesn’t have to be fantasy, it can be historical fiction, or any fiction.

After listening to so many non fiction books that I have to go back and re listen to because they are so dry, I lose track, then I listened to the reformatory and I was hooked.

Anyone done the The Book of Malazan series ?
Yep, enjoyed them lots. Took me a few chapters to get into it's groove, but can highly recommend them. Steven Erikson certainly is an interesting writer, but in a good way.

LOVE my fantasy genre Hojuman, I've a ridiculous amount of books in my library now :nerdv1:

I'm a big fan of Raymond E.Feist
