I don't know what to think. Part of me says it's round 1 and you don't want to over-react to a bad bight at the office. The thing is, it was a really bad night at the office. If you can't fire up for round 1 in front of a full house, what is it going to take?
There's no doubt there is a major problem with culture at the club - too many players have been holding their positions in the team when they haven't deserved it, and this has been happening for a decade or more now. It is all very well to say don't over-react to one bad loss, but how can there not be changes in the side. Wallace needs to make the point that performances like that are unacceptable. Edwards, Schulz, McMahon must go - how many soft, sub-standard performances can these guys turn in before they end up at Coburg. They had no impact on the game. Sure Edwards is young and probably worth persisting with. Surely Schulz is running out of chances. McMahon is in the team as a possession-accumulating sweeper who can distribute the ball effectively - except he does none of those things.
For mine, this week I would like to see:
OUT - Schulz, Edwards, McMahon
IN - Hislop, Collins, Rance
Put Bowden back in defence where he belongs to cover McMahon - they do much the same thing anyway.
Thoughts anyone?
