With the Hawks, Bulldogs and Kangaroos having been in the league 100 years now there are only two finals matches between current Victorian clubs that have never come up; Richmond vs. Bulldogs and Bulldogs vs. Carlton.
Richmond and the Bulldogs can easily be explained away as an anomaly; the teams are rarely in the same finals series and only once (2020) did a finals meeting between the pair look possible.
But with Carlton and Bulldogs, there are so many instances of one making the finals at the expense of the other; a narrow or upset result either in the finals or the regular season, and changed finals formats preventing a Blues vs. Dogs finals that one wonders whether higher powers who know things that we don't are working to prevent a Carlton vs. Bulldogs finals match. It's not a recent thing, it dates all the way back to the 1930s and has occurred in every decade since then on numerous occasions, with examples in 2022, 2023 and 2024 alone, making it seem supernatural.
With season 2025 looking to be one of the most even on record, a Carlton and Bulldogs final looks a distinct possibility. But what might happen if the higher powers take their eye off the ball and prevent it from happening? Would there be numerous volcanic eruptions around the world that send the planet into darkness for months on end? Will the San Andreas fault-line give way, causing a massive earthquake and tsunami that wipes most of California from the map? Will a meteor like the one at Tunguska in 1908 hit Earth, only this time in a more populus area? Will Atlantis rise up overnight from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean? Or will the Earth be hit by a comet causing us to be sent to an alternate timeline in the 1950s with no knowledge of our previous lives, like in the TV show Riverdale?
I'll pick Earth stopping on its axis and then starting to spin west to east like Venus and Uranus from now on. What are your thoughts? Which apocalypse do you think will befall the world if higher powers fail and Carlton and the Bulldogs meet in a finals match for the first time this September?
