Assuming idiot boy is suspended by the leadership group for Thursday's nights game I'm reluctant to tell my 8 year old who idolises this buffoon that the reason fevola wont be playing against the Tigers is because his favourite player was out at 4.30am and pissed on a nightclub window.

Would have thought this would be pretty shattering news for all those junior Carlton members out there.

Use it as a lesson to your son that just because you are a high profile footballer it doesn't mean that you are above the law or can behave irresponsible in public. Everyone should be held accountable for their actions.

Fev can still be his hero even though Judd would be a better role model!

You don't have to go into detail.

Maybe say that he disobeyed a "team rule" at training and to make the club more professional they had to punish him.

Or just say he got injured! :D

Tell him that our game is becoming over-sanitised and god forbid if he ever wants to become an AFL footballer he will not be allowed out of his house other than to attend training or a match.

Tell him the truth. Fevola is suspended due to poor choices that he has made in his non-football life. What better way to teach your son that actions have consequences, than by the real-life example of his idol?

Instead of growing up believing that footballers are flawless, he might develop a sense of perspective as well as some good moral character!

Well said :thumbsu:

It's a good lesson to learn

tell him the truth now,
so he doesn't grow up and one day make the same poor decision 'idiot boy' has made.

When Nature Calls!!

Exactly right:), I carn't see what the problem is, it was a hot night, I couldn't sleep either and had to work the next day, not a week away.
I go to the footy each week, and trust me, I have seen it done there in the isle's, and on the way back to the car, it ain't the end of the world for fake's sake's:p, Our only priority is to win the first game and get off to a good start to give the young boys the belief they can win games, not loose them like we have done in the last five years. If they don't let him play I for one won't be going to the game to see us hand Richmond 4 point's on a siver platter.

Kids have always looked up to Fevola, just the way it is. If Fevola doesn't play on Thursday, the best way to deal with it is to just tell him that Fev's been silly and has been suspended. Use it as a way to try and coax your child not to be like that.

Tell him that Fevola is suspended because he pee'd in a public place and you are not allowed to do that
I don't see the need for going into specifics, especially with such a young child. Just say Fevola was stupid, went out late and is in trouble for it.

Can I now submit my vote for most "over-dramatic" thread for 2008?

Agreed.

In ten years time when your now 18 year-old son thinks about urinating in public after a big night out, he'll remember this valuable lesson and make the right choice.

Fevola has to play in round 1. I'm sure the young draftees aren't that stupid that Fevola's actions will lead to a wild spate of shop-front urination around the inner-city in the next few months, with undisciplined Carlton players running unzipped and wild.

I cannot stomach losing to Richmond in round 1. With our other injuries, if Fev doesn't play, we will lose. Simple.

Fev is again acting like a ********, but if he is suspended, the cost to the team is too great. And no, I don't think this cost is outweighed by the perceived bad example it will set for the younger players if Fev isn't disciplined.

If my older brother went out starting fights every night, it doesn't mean that I'd automatically think it was ok. Similarly, if I knew my boss repeatedly cheated on his wife, it doesn't mean I would be encouraged to do the same.

People make their own choices, and I don't think Fevola's stupid but altogether harmless choice should result in our season getting off to the worst possible start.

Also, did you ever consider telling your 8 year old son the truth?

Or are you one of those 'birds and the bees people'?

Just say he was suspended for breaking club curfew case closed.

Fev should have done it at The Arts Centre. He could have said it was a post-modern performance installation in the same vogue as Piss Christ, or Dung Madonna. Some people make careers out of this.

Tell him work hard at school so he can be the lawyer earning millions defending the footballers who seem incapable of rational thought.
You put yourself in harms way and you reap what you dig into the manure.
