What do you guys reckon we should do with him? I actually rate him apart from his disposal sometimes. He has dodgy hamstrings. And i think with guys like Fasolo, Sinclair, Young, Buckley have overtaken him this he will find it tough to get a game next year. And with Marty Clarke maybe coming back and Goldsack and Josh Thomas and Seedsman all pushing for senior selection. What do we do with him? Do you reckon we could get anything for him during trade week?

I think he has requested a trade to the Kangaroos. I agree with another poster late second round draft pick would be fine.

Maybe send someone else down there and take a punt on McIntosh not being injured?

If anyone thinks we will get a late 2nd rounder for him then they are dreaming. This bloke is a complete spud, never rated him to begin with. I think he will get delisted and picked up by North very late in the draft.

What value is there in trading him for a pick in the 40s or 50s?

If he wants out, fair enough....but whilst in premiership mode he will offer better depth than you will get from a pick 40 or 50 for the next couple of years.

I said I'd be happy with it, not expecting it, there's a difference you know?

And he is nowhere near as bad as you are describing him, would make a starting 22 in more than half of the teams in the league.

I think he would too but he hasn't shown alot to give other teams that confidence. If we get a trade for him with any pick it's better to start developing someone else then let him waste away with us.

The talk is he wants out, he is high 20's, early 30's on our list and injuries have meant that he has just not come an as he should. Has talent but looked off-the-bit all year for mine.

if he wants out you talk a mid-dish pic for him and hope Mr. Hine has a sleeper in the draft waiting for that pick!

Goldsack - no. 63
Brown - no. 70
Swan - no. 58
Shaw - no.48

O'Brien was a 2nd rounder too I'm pretty sure.

Just sayin'

Harry was a rookie, but you have a point with late draft picks.

Even Fasolo was mid 40's last year.

McCarthy has to go, I can't see him getting a game next year unless we have a run of bad injuries.

He has never performed at senior level, and is injury prone.

Trade him, and if we can't, delist him, better off having a kid in his place who may turn into a top liner, rather then a list clogger.

McCarthy is in the Danny Stanley or Sam Iles category, he isn't quite good enough to be in a top 4 AFL team, but he could play plenty of games for a bottom 6 AFL team.

Definite trade fodder at this point and I've been patiently hopeful he would make the level since he came to the club. Susceptible to injuries and just hasn't managed to reduce the disparity between his best and worst -- from game to game or even from kick to kick.

I'd hope we might get something for him as he could contribute at several lesser ranked clubs, but his currency wouldn't be all that flash. Will either get a late pick or nothing for him I'd say.

He's been overtaken by Beams, Blair and Sidebottom in previous years and Fasolo this year. There'll be more opportunity for the likes of J. Thomas, Seedsman and whoever we pick-up this trade and draft period.

2 years ago I was keen. 1 year ago I was hopeful. He hasn't improved much so I am running low on confidence. He made no impact this season and noone will trade anything for him now. Wether he stays or is delisted probably depends on who retires adn who is traded in or out - if anyone. If it is only Leigh Brown that retires and no one is traded out I expect he will be delisted. If we clear 3 list spots we may well keep him for another year and just use our first 3 picks - hopefully with some upgrade via trades.

At best he looks like an emergency depth player if we haven't got anyone new to blood in the 1s. OK, I have convinced myself to delist him now!

Danny Stanley has been a pretty consistent player for Gold Coast and does not have dodgy hamstrings. I rate him ahead of McCarthy.

I think McCarthy has a lot of tools, and at VFL level he often looks several grades above. At AFL level however he has yet to put it all together for four quarters or probably even a half, I know he's had a chequered run with injury but sometimes you just get the sense that it isn't going to magically happen for someone. I don't doubt his application but I think he lacks poise and decision making ability at times. It would be a shame to lose him, but I think we'd cope.

McCarthy is a decent player, he's just not as good as 25-30 or so players on our list. Injuries have hurt him and his disposal is a bit off at times, but he can still play good footy IMO and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he turned into a solid performer at another club.

In saying that if he wants to be traded we should go for it. I agree with the 2nd/3rd round pick for him, or even upgrading one of our picks for him (trading McCarthy plus our 3rd round pick for a 2nd round pick).

If nobody wants him (unlikely) we should keep him.

This. There is a fair bit of unwarranted criticism going on in here. He'd be a decent pick up for another club.

Definately trade him for a pick if we can. From what I have seen he is soft as butter, doesnt go in hard enough, not strong enough, not fast enough and not good enough. Good luckto him though wherever he goes, been a bit unlucky with injuries but I just dont see anything of value.
