With Lenny getting up there in age and Ball possibly getting traded or spending most of his days in the twos I think we could use another inside midfielder. Having Armitage does help this but I think we could use a couple more.

Disagree. Midfielder yes, but our first pick should go to a outside player with elite pace. That's the one thing missing from the Saints - someone who can break the lines and carve teams up. A player like Davey, Rioli, Winderlich, Griffen or Lovett. Next pick for a KP player - the more versatile the better. But yeah, our number 1 priority should be for pace and plenty of it.

Young Mids-

DRAFT 09'-

Firstly, No more rucks thanks. Took Tom Lynch with our first pick last year as a medium half forward who takes grabs and kicks goals which is something we have lacked since Sammy Hammill.

We need some speedy midfielders. Would love nothing more then an Indigenous talent running along the wing like lovett, Stephen Hill or Winmar with real skill. We need some more ball carriers because Gram and Joey are not going to get any faster. Steven, Geary and Armo are tough contested mids with the exception of Geary's running ability that hopefully comes of age Unknown Al Smith is about it being fairly quick and good by foot. X. Clarke has been that missing outside player that we desire due to injury ruined seasons. Here is some of the really exciting Indigenous talent on offer this Draft-

Deon Gordon (NT Thunder)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: April 2, 1991
Recruited from: Saint Mary's, NTFL
Natural footballer with clean hands and intimate feel for the game. Exceptional kicking skills are a distinct strength. NT U18 representative in 2009.

Nicholas Winmar (Claremont, WA)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 78kg, Weight: April 27, 1991
Recruited from: Scarborough, WAAFL
Versatile player with strong athletic ability and clean hands overhead and at ground level. Western Australia U18 representative in 2009.

Bryon Sumner (Eagles, SANFL)
Height: 174cm, Weight: 68kg, DOB: May 16, 1991
Recruited from: Woodville South
Quick and clever midfielder with penetrating left foot. Evasiveness and clean hands overhead are two of his strengths. Performed very well for SA at NAB AFL U18 Championships.

Allen Christensen (Geelong Falcons, Vic.)
Height: 176cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: May 19, 1991
Recruited from: Lara
Prolific ball-winner who amasses plenty of contested possessions. Sound decision-maker who is extremely clever around goals. Vic Country U18 representative in 2009.

Lewis Jetta (Swan Districts, WAFL)
Height: 178cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: May 4, 1989
Recruited from: Bridgetown
Extremely quick player who provides great run and carry. Team-oriented with clean hands and great agility. Can play a variety of positions.

Troy Taylor (NT Thunder, NT)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: September 12, 1991
Recruited from: South Alice Springs, CAFL
Agile footballer with clean skills by hand and foot. Second efforts, ball-winning ability and marking are also features of his game. Northern Territory U18 representative in 2009.

Mitchell Taylor (NT Thunder, NT)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: October 6, 1990
Recruited from: Wanderers, NTFL
Rebounding defender with ability to win his own ball. Agility and competitiveness are both highlights of his game. Northern Territory U18 representative in 2009.

A back up Tall forward is also on the cards with the unfortunate retirement of Allen. Cahill has potential but spent all year in the reserves and is very raw and is still a long way off. I reckon we will take a quick midfielder first round because we need one more so there might not be much on offer in the 2nd round as it looks like a midfielders draft that doesn't run too deep.

A small defender and quick rebounding defender are also on the cards.

#17- Lewis Jetta (Speed, exceptional skills)

#32- Nicholas Winmar (versatile wingman):thumbsu:

100% agree:thumbsu:. A bit of foot speed is what we need! IMO Lewis Jetta seems like the pick of that bunch...will he still be in the draft come pick 17?

Maybe the pundits were right about the standard of this year's draft. Given the talk regarding the absence of quality talls, you'd think there would be a few nippy types around.

Heard the best time was a 2.88 in the 20m - as a comparison, Steve Gaertner ran that at 199cm. Atkinson supposedly ran a 2.73 at Essendon (Jetta, Davey and Dempsey have run 2.75), and Pearce ran 2.79 at draft camp (record).

Winmar ranked equal second in kicking efficiency, but this test sounds pretty dodgy.

Do you get the feeling no ones listening Squizzy, they are still talking about picking up a speedy midfielder.

Well, no-one listened about Gardi not being finished, no-one listened about Bakes still being in our best 22, no-one listened about BJ as a forward, no-one listened about Kosi being just a touch over-rated.

Why start now?

Pick up Fevola? for Ball and Round 16. Seems like Ball is adament on heading to Visy oval?

What makes you think that?

I reckon Ball is still a very good player and we should keep him. If he was given some decent TOG he could prove his worth - when he finally had to step up against the hawks he dominated + he played quite well in the GF.

In the GF I think he had something like 22 possies and 7 tackles while barely playing half the game. A very good return.

I'm starting to think we have no good trade bait for Fev, besides I doubt the Blues would take Ball considering they just got Mclean.

yeah i am definitely not disputing Balls ability as a player I just think he could be the possible reason there are now rocks with securing him with Carlton as they see Ball's ability.

I am also going from a friend who before Ball announced even leaving, said that a mate who works for St Kilda FC said announced he was intent on leaving. To be honest seems like Ross picked on him a bit, if he had more game time we could have won GF to be honest.

If not Ball then Kosi and pick 16. As much as I love these players this club needs a premiership to stop this drought a Riewoldt, Fevola match up in the forward line would be unstoppable if Ball and pick 16 got traded for Fev. Then Kosi could head back again he's done ruck before and stuff he's a big bloke still dangerous regardless. I think securing Fevola with us would be very very good.

Teams would be fearful of us if we had that forward line. Also Fevola has relationships when Lyon helped out at Carlton as assistant and gets along very well with the players.

We already have the 3rd forward type in Lynch, we don't need one. we need him to stand up. If he can, who knows. Let's hope

Hey fair call right Afail. But our club has had 43 years of bringing up youngsters.. Fevola would secure a premiership next year Riewoldt and him unstoppable

Carlton are backpedaling on the McLean deal.. Me thinks they have a potential suitor lined up, either the Lions, Saints or Pies. And instead want to offer the pick they'll recieve instead of 11.

Ball > Mclean

If we do get fev it will be at the expense of Ball for sure.

Yup.
Although i hate seeing players go, i'd prefer Fevola + Armitage in the 22, than 46% Ball.

According to the rag, we are "exploring our options".

Isn't McLean deal done?

(knowing our luck we'll end up with him...somehow)

"Knowing our BAD luck we'll end up with him some how"

A joke Joyce.

Saintly intentions
Jesse Crichton was wearing St Kilda shorts during the shuttle run. Hint, hint.

Mean anything, I'm not sure? But I had a look around, see what I could find on him.

Highlight package --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VfJa8IpXY8

Plays for Tasmania and in the U18 championship he was in the best for Tasmania in almost all the games. From what I can gather he is highly rated.

Here's a bigfooty thread on him --> http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=583193

Likened to Blease of last year?

Well he's got pace, and we need pace. Would probs be a good second round pick. But it's unlikely he'll be around at pick 32 eh?

I'm guessing KPP forward with first pick though.
