what do we think about TAR 2004

I don't like it much -

as I've said:

It's a massive disappointment - I can understand the ratings being poor, because we'll be able to change that, but the match screen is clumsy and inelegant and not having rookie lists, let alone the players from the rookie lists, i.e Davey, Lovett-Murray, is frankly one of the most glaring omissions in a game I've seen. This game cannot be considered an accurate representation of AFL football management and thus we wait and hope that Matt can deliver with the next Footy Fanatic. The previous Footy Fanatic, though buggy, is a lot more fun and realiastic than this rubbish.

Hopefully it does well, so the genre develops, but you can't have a text-based simulation, charge money, and leave critical management components out.

I'd be very interested to know how much the game has changed since the previous version.

I just played the first quarter and i reckon its a great game. You can change all the tactics you want, tag, double team everything. I'll probably be buying it.

The match screen is very poor, its really tough to work at whats going on and to charge money for a game thats missing players, is very unprofessional. Also I can't see a fatigue bar any were to tell if my players are getting tired, does any one know were it is. This will have to improve through patches for me to invest my hard earned into it.

i think you guys are all being a bit 2 rough on the game

i think its very good

the rookie list not being there is surprising coz it has all these other sofistimicated things in it

the only thing i dont like is the fact that the commentary is not colour coded for different teams like footy fanatic

as for the ratings, some are a bit poor but we can always change em in full version

It seems to me to be the sort of game which will take a while to get used to all of the details, so it's difficult to make a strong judgment right now.

The absence of rookie listed players is surprising and very disappointing.

The administration options seem very shallow, but that's not surprising, and I don't find that a big negative. I think it's the match tactics and list management where the game should ultimately be judged.

There seems to be a decent amount of variety in the tactics. Of course, a lot of more subtle things aren't available to do, but that's not surprising.

The match screen isn't all that complicated, I don't think. Everything you immediately need to know is there on the screen, and the other things you'd like to know are easy to access. Text based games like this are always somewhat awkward, and this is no exception, but the interface looks to have been well thought out.

I'll probably fork out the $30 to get the ability to edit player ratings and play multiple seasons.

Soapy: What management issues, aside from the rookie listed players, do you think are missing? And you say it's a disappointment: What were you expecting?

it is a very complicated game and some of you guys probably downloaded it when it came out on midnight and were 2 sleepy to think about your judgement carefully enough (i know i was coz i was sleepy and thought it was crap but now that i have played it more i think it's great

The only thing that's really ****ting me about it at the moment is that I can't win a bloody game! :D

But I guess that's no surprise, given the player ranking aren't too good. If I played Misiti and Mercuri and Wellman I'd probably do a fair bit better.

Perhaps the worst player attribute I've come across is Scott Lucas has a strength rating of 31.

Ricky Dyson: BOG in the first game I played. :D

ive found the first bug

when you go to play a game with fast sim and ya use ya default lineup OR ya pick one yaself this is wat happens:

on the match review screen everything is normal but sometimes when you view the stats of the game, the players that show up arnt the ones you picked in the team

this happens somtimes i found

it works fine when you play out the match in full which is wat i intend to do with all games once i buy the full version

I reckon it's very good. Not excellent, but very good.

The match-day screen isn't overly complicated - as someone said, everything you need is just a click away.

The rookie situation is very strange.....I'm assuming/hoping there will be a patch for that.

Just finished my first pre-season game V's St Kilda and I won by 15pts, with Licuria, Bucks, Mullins all grabbing 27+ touches.

I'll definately go the full version, but I bloody hope you can continue your current season.....or I'll have wasted a lot of individual training on the Shack to loose some kg's!!!

But overall, I reckon it's a good game. :)

Just posted my money order then, looking forward to the full version.

Although I just fast-simmed a full season and I had to let go of Tarkyn and Bucks to free up some cash...

I think I might be starting a new season with an easier salry cap ;)

Absolutely.

I rang up Strategem and told them that, and they said that they understood my feelings, and sent out a registration key for free.

Their kids don't need clothing or food.

gunna post letter tonight

Yeah I'll never fast-sim any games - I just wanted to check out the Awards/Draft stuff.

It's all set out reasonably well, the trades are quite realistic:

I offered R.Shaw for D.Harris and got shut down (worth a shot ;) )
I got S.Woewodin for H.Scotland first shot (if only...)
and picked up M.Bode for M.McGough and S.O'Bree.

They don't let you get away with murder, unlike FF.

i don't think it will be quite that easy, i believe they have a special number that is just assigned to your comp, and when you get a code after you purchase the game it will only work on that one computer* ... but i stand corrected

* as in you can't get someone elses code and use it on your comp.
