was the first number I had on my back, Barry Richardson 17, after the ol man knocked back my request for Neil Balme...This fella was club captain, coach and then prez only to never set foot back at punt Rd ever again. and it's riled me over the years to hear of him talked so highly in footy circles having been at Carlton, and more recently Geelong and Melbourne some time ago. what gives that such a decorated servant of the RFC has had so little to do with our fortunes over the years...if you believe the reports on the intended footy manager, it was his son Daniel the club wanted at first...It's these sorts of richmond people that you do need at the club, prob too late now, but don't let it happen again with someone like Benny Gale

I dont recall him playing but I have an early memory of him coaching. Did he get sacked after one or two years in the late seventies? My earliest memories of the number 17 was Butch Edwards before he went to the scum.

Its interesting to see who does return to the club though.

Guys like Des Ryan in marketing who didnt sound too bright on club corner, but then that might be hard to judge

suprised that Trevor Poole had a role back in the club after he left us for Geelong.

I think while you are aiming for the best in the field and are able to offer a lure to the best to the club then if someone who is ex Richmond and good at what they do, they will return. Its behind the times to think that people return to the club they played over other clubs if the offer and opportunity isnt there. Sheedy was never sniffing out a sentimental return, he was sniffing out big bucks and a long contract.

The gifted payer/coach/administrator went on to strap more champions than Tommy Woodcock. His physio skills were useful to the mind too. He eventually returned to coaching -Old Xaverians in 1995 (premiers), 2005 (premiers) 2006 (runners up) and 2007 (premiers). Four years, three flags. Young Danny played in six straight with the Red and Blacks 1995-2000. Want to turn the Tiges around? Let Bones and his mad, bad and dangerous-to-know OX crew through the door and watch it happen. In a year.

Nah mate. Bull Richardson is Richos dad.

Never saw him play but he was a big man who would look out of place in todays game.

Bones Richardson was a better player but thank god for Bull.

i did a gig at the "G" last Tuesday night and noticed Francis Bourke and Bones in the audience.

Barry is actually looking fantastic as is bourkey too.

They looked like they were having a good time.

Its always a warm fuzzy feeling to be playing music on stage and looking out and seeing my old heroes enjoying themselves.

It also happened when i played a Collingwood function a few years back and looked out and saw Balmey and his missus havin a boogie on the dancefloor. Balmey had a huge smile on his face and was singin along at the top of his voice!

Its kinda like repaying them for the years of enjoyment they gave me :)

So you are part of Shannon Nolls backing band then ?

Hahaha, have played with him a few times but this was Tuesday at the Olympic Room not Wed at the Jack Dyer. Some corporate thing.

Shannon is one of the nicest guys going despite what the knock on him is. Typical country lad.

Loves his footy, loves his cars and loves his family.

Real down to earth bloke really but i understand the ebbs of the music business and the pitfalls that come with it so does he and he doesnt give a toss, just does his thing.

cant please all the people all the time hey.

Anyway Mario are you owning up to being an REO Speedwagon fan???

Actually i have a mate whose name is Mario and he recently brought a Porsche. I jokingly dubbed it "Mario's Speedwagon" to which i gained a healthy round of applause from all the crew, so thanks for that gag :D

sounds like you know abit about him...his time has passed my friend, I just found it odd that over the journey, somehow he didn't find his way back, FFS he had some connection as premiership player Capt/coach and prez, anyway good to ehar he supports past player functions
