I would rate Hysteria era Leps as the greatest pop-Metal band of all time. That album is an all time classic. Their stuff leading up to that album Rocks as well.
Today, like 90% of stuff from that era, yes they do suck hard....

Def Leppard were good until (and including) Hysteria though. I thought when Steve Clark overdosed and they recruited Viv Campbell, they could have done so much more than record basic generic movie-score ballads. He is a killer guitarist, better than Clark & Collen put together, squared, cubed and shot out of a rocket farting abacus balls.

I think it was their first.
Thing is,they grew as a band with Mutt Lange from day one of becoming a recording act.

No respect for anyone who even thinks Def Leppard are slightly okay. They suck heavily. I had mates who loved Hysteria at the time and I was disgusted that I had boyhood mates who grew up into thinking that stuff was good music. Just shocking. Deplorable. Most of my mates have since been on the wagon. None have relapsed.

Who said anything about skill? Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai have amazing skill but their music sounds like shyt. Hysteria sounds like shyt. It hasn't aged well at all.

And as someone has said: it's not really rock. It may fit into the broad genre but the sound is pop metal. Rock is a different sound. Maybe you don't know anything about rock?
