What if we started with the same team?

Hi people,

There are two parts to this supercoach game; the starting team and trading/team selection. How much difference do you think trading makes?

Well I don't know, so why don't we find out? I'd like to have a league full of supercoachers who start with the same team. Come the end of the year we'll see the difference in total points / rankings. Yeah it’s a pretty pointless idea, but I only need 17 other posters to be interested in this. The important part is that everyone sticks to the starting team, and finishes the season.

So there are a couple of issues we should work out, so here are my answers to the predicted FAQs.

Who picks the starting team?
As with the whole of this idea, I am open to suggestions. The make-up of the starting team is not that important. I could chose the starting team and leave it at that, or each person who joins can change one player. Or maybe we could find a couple of teams that get published and vote on it? What do you reckon?

What if I don't want to be told what my starting team is?
Well that's too bad; we'll have to find someone else to participate. Although if you're like me who has a wife who wants to play, but doesn't give a toss about picking the starting team, you can ask her to participate instead.

If we all start with the same team, then doesn't that mean we'll all score the same in round 1?
Possibly, but we should have enough flexibility with captains and rookies starting on the ground to get some variation. This is what makes it interesting! In any case, the result is at the end of round 23, not round 1.

Is there money in it for the winner?
I had not thought about that. I am open to the idea if it means I get more interest.

Is anyone famous going to be participating?
No. But fame is all relative (like everything else in the world). Posters like Impromptu, SJ, Axewell, the tooserious guy (Wallesy?) and jockreynolds are well known on this board and to have them participate would be good. So if you're reading this guys consider yourselves to have received special invitation.

Who are you and are you any good at supercoach?
Well im a regular visitor to bigfooty, but not a regular poster. I came about 8,000-9,000 last year (nothing special) and I won my cash league with friends from 8th spot (special).

Posters like Impromptu, SJ, Axewell, the tooserious guy (Wallesy?) and jockreynolds are well known on this board and to have them participate would be good. Unfortunately, I cannot see myself (nor any of the the names listed) participate with starting the same team.

The main reason is that it pretty much eliminates you from overall prize as I don't think any of these guys will have multiple accounts (which makes them ineligible for the main prize of $50K) and having the same initial team with one account reduces you chances of winning the overall prize.

NB - not saying I'm going to win it or anything, but I'd rather have a 1 out of 400,000 chance than 0 chance (ie being uneligible).

It's amazing how much of a difference having one different player makes though.

Last year I chose Hibberd (even knowing he wasn't going to play Round 1) over Curnow and never ended up getting Curnow in. That sort of decision makes a huge difference.

As mentioned though, your biggest issue in recruiting members will be the 1 team only rule.

As if the no-more-than-one team rule is putting people off. Just register this for-a-bit-of-fun team in a family member/friend's/significant other's name and be done with it. Sheesh.
