Over to you, Ms Garbutt

YOUNG mother Leah Withington felt like a criminal when two Government cars, a police van and two constables on bicycles arrived at her Mornington house.

Neighbours must have thought a drug bust was in progress -- or maybe a raid linked to the underworld killings.
It was neither.

The posse of police and officials had come to take away Leah's baby, Sam, aged six months, in the mistaken belief he was at risk.

In an overreaction as farcical as it was humiliating for the parents, the Department of Community Services proved again that it is as subtle as a sledgehammer and seriously prone to bungling.

As Tim says inaction would have created a bigger headline.
It sounded as if there was one officer who assumed arrogantly their powers far outweighed the publicity.

A woman was recently jailed here in WA for killing her baby and the Department were criticised for their inaction ..so if every now and then an overkill happens then so be it..as long as a childs life is protected.

Remember 6 months ago the let a baby starve to death in a flat with a druggie mum who OD, and was known to them. It seems to me to much is left to the officers whims and not enough to a process.
