I dont mind giving money to a footy club!!

However all of them say its a business now.
Look after the Corporates .....stuff the rest.

Administrations such as Melbourne and the Roos piss their monies up the wall trying to get into gambling ventures rather than concentate on Footy issues.

If I give money to these clubs how do I know it will be used to benefit the Club?

Beware all right!!!!

I`ve been conned before.

nth melb is no different to any other club they have supporters who live and breath football we were all brought up in an envoirment where football was THE game for all of us and i know i would and as well as tiger supporters would help north out in any way as u all did for us back in our darkest hour.
however despite all our efforts to keep our clubs viable for as long as possible the almighty dollar has taken over what was the poeple.s game from the top the afl down to our clubs.each year we hear that a player comes out of contract so there for his price goes up therfore putting more pressure on clubs to keep their champion players which in turn tightens the screws even more on a club.
this can not go on there will be a time where a club is going to have to fold, relocate or merge.and this hits me right in the heart to me football and the richmond football club is high up on my life and without it in any shape or form would be like being stabbed in the heart and im sure all other supporters would feel the same.
what can we do about it?
simple buy a membership do your bit to keep the heart pumping at least then u can look yourself in the mirror and say u did your bit.
cheers!

good on you tiger! MB I don't think anyone for a minute thought you'd open your wallet to help out.

Whatever club you barrack for, Mac, check out their website.

Tell me.

Are they a dot com or a dot org?

That should tell you straight away whether they regard themselves as a community organisation or a profit-making entity.

You comments suggest that you are extremely naive.

I won't even bother answering the second part of your post. It's not worth the compliment of a reply.

At what point did I suggest that they ARE a non-profit organisation? I said they SHOULD be a non-profit organisation. A football team should not exist simply to make money, but at the moment that is exactly what is happening. That is why the struggling Vic teams are struggling. Because the real fight for a football club has left the field and is now fought at a corporate level. That means that football has lost something big. Something far more intangible than money.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself properly. Why should a team like North Melbourne, whose on-field record in recent years has been second to none, now be faced with the prospect of the end of their club in the next few years? They've done exactly what is required of them, and yet it isn't enough to keep themselves afloat. Let's compare that with Fremantle. These guys haven't even made the finals yet. And yet, they are financially strong, and can rest in the knowledge that they are safe in the AFL.

Whichever way one looks at that contrast, it is not right. The rich should not dictate the amount of money the poorer teams have to come up with each year. We are supporters of FOOTBALL teams - otherwise I would be going to the Australian Stock Exchange on Sundays to barrack for Coles-Meyer.

And for the record I support the West Coast Eagles - a rich team. I hate North Melbourne with a passion.

every team deserves the right to play in the afl if they are good enough. north are good enough so why can't they play.

OK, McKenna For PM.

I accept your explanation that you were talking about how things SHOULD be rather than how they are. That answers my allegation that you are naive.

But I think a lot of people are confusing a "team" for a "club". It's reached the point these days where the team is really just incidental to the operations of the club. The way club administrators go on you could be excused for forgetting that this has got anything at all to do with a bunch of guys running around a football ground chasing a bag of wind.

Even the term, "club", is very misleading these days. It's really just a carryover from a long-gone era when football clubs really were "clubs", that is to say, non-profit community organisations. In those days it really was all about football. Now it's about corporate packages, merchandising, buying and selling assets ... that's all players are these days ... "assets".

I'm sorry if my earlier post sounded heartless. Despite my recent grudge against certain Kangaroo supporters, I do actually feel for what they're going through. But I reckon, when you dip into your pocket to try to save a football club, what you're really doing is just bailing out the corporate criminals that have got the club into the mess in the first place. It's as if you're giving them permission to do the whole thing again.

If you're going to keep making the same mistakes ... don't expect different results.
