its near impossible for us to make the finals even tho it is still mathematically possible the way we played today and im not talking about the 2nd half we would have trouble beating carlton.
so therfore do we do what we did in the 2nd half and play the kids and get something out of the season and risk the kids mindset regarding confidence?
next week against a similar young group in geelong would be an ideal time to give the cubs 1st crack.

your thoughts?

cheers!

The objective should not be merely making the finals, but winning the premiership. Therefore, the question to ask is: 'Will this current group take us to the premiership?'

As it stands at the moment, I think the answer is plainly NO!

So what we must do is look at our current list and change it to get a core 26 - 28 players who are capable of doing so.

Simple really!

I think that the coaching staff and admin should be looked at as well.

I think some of the assistants and mark brayshaw should have to explain themselves at the AGM.

G'day Diggler/TigerFurious..

Not sure if I agree with you about Brayshaw per se.

However, whoever is responsible for the re-signing of Biddiscombe to an extended deal clearly demonstrates a limited football knowledge and should not be in such a position at the RFC. ::mad:

Hope you're well Diggler, btw why don't you just keep the same moniker?

I'm pretty sure that contract negotiations fall under the jurisdiction of the CEO. And I'm pretty sure thats Mr Brayshaws job title.

Because we are not the same person. Yes its true we share similar view but you'll notice my posts are alot more informed and well written :)

We were wondering why you poached him...he was pretty poor as marketing manager at Port.

Patrick, you think me and TF are the only ferals with similar views?
Well, on current form, we will struggle to beat Carlton in two weeks, let alone Geelong. How will the supporters react to a wooden spoon?

tigers

Did anyone earmark that game as a win before the season ?

Be realistic : Port have a team of footballers in the true sense....I just love 'em from a unbiased football fan POV. an even spread of runners that have abundant pace, foot skills and determination. And some have great vision as well like Francou and Dew. If I was a coach they would be my model. The biggest suprise in a long while for me has been that Port choked to Haw at home. I was glad when I saw some older-out -of- their- league- players on the bench. Clinton King wouldn't get a game for Port if they were playing beach cricket. We got a lesson...and I hope we learn it.

What really scares me is : if we get a top 5 pick we'll cough it up (as frawley did last year) on a Craig Ellis or Dale kickett.

If i was recruiting manager/coach I would go back to the policy of get 5 picks and draft 5 kids. Kids that play footy like Stuart Dew... Nick Stevens...Josh Francou...Jarrad Schofield...Burgoyne.

Play these guys.

Coughlan showed he just needs game time.
Newman...same
Rodan...same
Krakeour...same.
Zantuck...same.

and these guys...

Fiora
Ottens
Vardy
Poyas
Petifer.
Ednie.

send to Coburg :

Sziller, King, Rogers.

Some friends who regularly attend Coburb games have nothing but good things to say about a young lad named McGrath?

Anyone know anything about him?

McG

He takes screamers...he kicks goals..light as a feather ...quick...aboriginal...

and he 9along with Rodan and Ednie spells the end of a very unsuccesfull fu CKing career.

He is yet another one of these infamous Greg Beck speculators! Just the same as Andy Krakouer he has punted on a kid as a 17 year old, 12 months before anyone would consider looking at him.

Also note that Martin McGrath has cousins playing at Essendon (Cory and Toby) and Brisbane (Ashley). Must be some football family!

mcgrath certainly has a huge leap but not sure if that fits in well. having richo and mcgrath flying at the same ball.
but he certainly has the body shape to build on and become more than just a high leaping fwd.
cheers!

Let's not get too carried away with trying to make him a high-marking forward. This is one thing we try and do too much of - trying to turn midfielders into small forwards before trying them out as midfielders (Hello Kayne!)

For all we know, he may yet turn out to be another oh so skilfull but far too puny player who can't really cut it at the top level. (think Proctor)

yes I agree play the young guys and give them a fair go like Geelong seem to be doing which seems to be going quiet well overall and yeah since we play the Cats this week it would be a very good time to start.

The atmosphere at the G on saturday could be quiet surreal. If you turn up to early you'd swear that the main game had already commenced, Rogers, Ziller, Tiverndale, Knights, King Houglahan etc etc.... all playing with coburg. :) :)

I'm not Sure Bowden has been our worst player lately...neither has Knights though...

really goos to see Cog's named in the middle.

damn ...now gas.
what the hell have we gotta do...to getta full team of talls on the park ??? we're cursed ! I;m sure....Staff Otto and Richo have played 2 games together !!!!
Unavailable talls..

Holland...season
Stafford...2...suspended.
Gaspar ?
Homewood... reserves

Hopefully we doin't lose any more ; and Staff and gas get back after the Carlton game ; we'll have 7 talls together for the first time since Round 1.
