The Oakland Athletics are no more, as of the end of the most recent MLB season in 2024. Now they're just the Athletics as they have moved to West Sacramento for a few seasons before heading to Vegas (well, that's the plan, but I have my doubts that it will actually happen).

I recently joined the committee of the North Balwyn Stingers, a baseball club based (funnily enough) in North Balwyn. I'm the typical fairweather supporter - joining the committee after they won the A-grade premiership last year. My son plays for the Stingers in winter and the Malvern Braves in summer, so you can add both those clubs to the list of teams other than Hawthorn I support.

Being a frequent visitor to Vegas, i can attest the Tropicana has been demolished and a stadium is being built. Whether it's the Athletics or not, it is pretty much a done deal that Vegas will get a MLB team at some point.

Interesting.

Fisher can't get financing to get the stadium built in Vegas and the Athletics are meant to be in Vegas by Opening Day 2028, so he's running out of time.

Sounds like you know more about that than I, though I can't imagine why they would demolish an historic (though extremely dated) resort without a plan. Property in that space would be FAR too valuable to sit vacant even for a short period of time.

Always had a soft spot for the A's

Think it's a belter if a sports team name , from memory they were originally in Philly
With a stop in Kansas City. I'm old enough to remember the move to Oakland but not the move out of Philly.
