From a book "Everything you ever wanted to know about Australian Rules Football but couldn't be bothered asking" (gotta be a record for longest book title ever!)

Topsy Waldron of Carlton was offered good money from a Sydney club in 1878 but turned it down for a better offer from the Redlegs.

Does anyone know what Sydney club made this offer?

probably the Waratah club
if you look on trove there is some game (s) between Carlton and Waratah in 1877/1878

Carlton and waratah played matches under each codes rules
