List Mgmt. What to do with Josh Bruce?

You play McCartin in the VFL to hopefully improve his game and fight his way back into the senior side.
Trade value comes after that.
Trouble is the club seems reluctant to play him at sandy unless they have too , egg on face scenario. When Bruce is back and fit next year Paddy will need to earn his spot

How would he go playing wing and rotating to chf

I think this is the best use for him given his tank and that he seems to have pretty good hands in the air when not in the Fwd 50 :(

He'll need to clean up his field kicking a fair bit though for this to be viable.

One of the biggest disappointments for me this year (the list is long) was Josh Bruce missing so many games. He was our leading marking target I50 in 2017 and his work rate is first class. IMHO his game suffers when he is forced to play as the backup Ruckman. With the emergence of Marshall it would have been great to see how he could impact games when he had the opportunity to play as a permanent forward.
What I like about having him in the team is his repeated leads and blocking for other forwards allows space to open up in the forward line. He allows Membrey to be more effective. They seem to work well together. He also provides that vital connection between the half back line and the forward line. But the thing I really like most about him is he makes opposition players think twice about dropping into his leading space. Unashamed to say I am a Bruce fan

Yeah , i think a lot of people under value Bruce , with him , members and battle running around they could cause some damage

Not sure about Bruce. I watched him get out-positioned in many forward contests last year by smaller opponents, and I think his marking lost some strength. I would try him in the back half.

Bruce is part of a larger conundrum... Here are our big marking forward players:
Bruce
Paddy
Marshall
Battle
Membrey

There's just not room for all of those guys in the same side.

Paddy would be the 1st one I would move on

Yeah hes tries to avoid body contact much in marking contests, good forwards use their body

The answer to the question posed in the thread title is:

Get him fit and play him in the forward line. Use his tank to pull defenders around and create space for Membrey, McCartin, Marshall....our other talls.

Bruce is not a no 1 forward, but we missed him this year. He has a lot of good attributes. He’d compliment McCartin well if we can get and keep McCartin fit and playing to the potential he had when we drafted him.

It would be interesting to see 4 of those in together though, Lonie and Long at their feet - JB into the middle.

Trade him. Only one of our forwards that would attract a decent trade that we could survive without. Paddy's market value rules him out, Battle, Membrey and Marshall too valuable to us.

I maintain: I'd trade Newnes, Bruce and even Ross without hesitation.

Id like to see a Bruce, Membrey & Battle forward line early next year, see how it works.
Then replace Bruce with RoMa if its not working.
Paddy needs a HUGE offseason to prove he deserves a crack before those 4 names

Roma has massive upside, gonna be a star that boy.
His development will depend hugely on how we as a team are travelling.
If we look like pushing towards 6 or 7 wins next year, Choey will go all conservative and he probably won't get a game apart from injuries.

Totally agree mate, RoMa needs games though and your right, Richo will be coaching to save himself so unlikely to give younger blokes a go in the positions they should be in

I think we look at any serious offers for Brucey. I’m expecting if Lynch goes to Tigers as expected then Collingwood and Hawthorn will be two Melbourne clubs looking for a tall forward.
Cats right into Paddy but we must keep him. Looking like an injury bust but if we give up that 10% chance that he has of becoming a very, very good player for pick 30 then I’ll spew. We must just keep him, for better or worse.

I couldn't bare losing him. People here have such little patience, and the ones wanting him gone would bemoan the club for letting him go when he comes good.

**** me if Aaron Francis can turn it around I'm sure as hell Paddy can and will.

It'd be just the same as people who would bemoan the club for Bruce and him playing well at another club. I just look at all our key forwards:

Membrey - Easily our best.
Bruce - Ruined this year by injury, average last year, 50 goals the year before, has a great tank.
Marshall - Good mark, very agile and can pinch hit in the ruck
Battle - Good campaigner about him, good grab, good tank and good shot for goal.
McCartin - Injuries have killed him, field kicking is pretty good, set shot for goal is terrible, marking is below average, constantly out positioned by defenders and beaten 1 on 1, very slow/no defensive pressure, is actually very good below his knees though.

So whilst Paddy might become a good footballer at another club, do we think he'll be any better then any of those guys? I HIGHLY doubt it. Everyone else has shown more than Paddy and Paddy has been in the team when frankly he hasn't deserved to be there. People say the pick he was taken doesn't count anymore but if he wasn't pick 1 no one would care about losing him.
I'd happily trade him, for the right price which i believe would be a 2nd rounder.
