AMD XP 2.1+
256Mb DDR RAM 333Mhz
Radeon 9000pro Gfx card
80Gb HDD

Basically. Would love to get flat panel monitor to replace my 17'', which seem to be monsters compared to the flat panels. Need some more RAM too. But otherwise, my comp runs good enough to not have to upgrade it.

Well, I have my "old" desktop (circa March/April 2001).. Which is a 1.2Ghz Athlon with 768MB of RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, 80GB HDD and connected to a 19" CRT. Mostly just use it for DVD burning these days.

My "old" laptop is an IBM ThinkPad 600E - P2-366, 384MB RAM, 20GB HDD... That's been passed onto my dad now.

My main machine at present is an Apple PowerBook - the 12", 867Mhz model. 640MB RAM, 60GB HDD, running dual-screens with a 19" CRT.

There's 7 computers in the house, all connected to ADSL via a router. All 4 laptops have wireless networking (great for relaxing in front of the TV!!). Us, a hourse full of nerds? never! ;)

LOL! Thanks christ Des, at least I'm not the only one. I got some damn strange looks when cabling my house during the rennos, but it makes life a lot easier.

My pc:

P4 2.8GHz
1GB RAM
200GB HD

Pretty similar to mine. I have a gf4 mx440 :(
Plus about 3 extra hard drives, maybe i should just dump them all into my other puters and buy a 200gb drive.

Is just about time to upgrade the puter again i think.

If he paid retail, abut $6000 ;)

Which is actually not too bad, only about 2 years ago, the 22" Apple cinema display (with a lower resolution than the new 20") would have been $6500 on its own!

Hooray for prices always falling, is all I can say!!

When I bought it my mate was the Retail Manager at the local Applecentre - and he did me a decent deal... I think all up it was just a fraction over $5K, not sure, though cause I also bought a stack of software, a printer and an iPod...

How do you find the service? I must say, any time I have problems (which is regularly, as I'm a computer dufus), I just call 'em up, and I have a cheery Optus tech within 5 minutes, AND they're knowledgable.

Their service is great, IMO. Its the reason I'm staying with them.

Why have such a kickass puter, but then have SDRAM, instead of DDR?

The only reason i have SDRAM atm is that there was a hold back at the computer shop i work at with DDR..
My computer only cost me $6000, and when the DDR RAM comes in in the next few days, i'll just swap them over..

My computers look all out of date now:

Athlon 1200
512Mb SDRAM
80Gb Hard Disk
128Mb Geforce 4 video card
A six year old 17" ADI monitor that still looks new. Best computer purchase ever for me

Maybe out of date but it does just fine for me.

- and -
Athlon 1800+
512Mb SDRAM
60Gb disk
an old crappy Diamond Riva card I found in my desk drawer
Uses the same monitor as above with a switch

I use this as a web server, so it doesn't need huge graphics power. Its average usage is running at about 1% :)

Both of the above are connected to Westnet ADSL.
