My internet usage month rolled over on the 6th and in 4 days I have used 18%, it is 10% through the usage month.

Now these are the things that I do on the internet pretty much, cutting down on what would help my internet usage go down?
NBA League Pass, watch 5+ games a week in HD (I know this would use heaps)
Facebook
BigFooty
YouTube
Various other websites, mostly something to do with sport
I download occassional torrents but this is when our mode is in off peak
Gaming online (Call of Duty:Black Ops)
iPod for Facebook, surfing internet sometimes etc.

As you've said, the HD NBA games are going to use the most by far.

I guess Youtube would follow.

Facebook, BF and gaming online wouldn't use much.
Could/Should I still use YouTube comfortably? How many MB's is a 5 minute video?

I believe that NBA League Pass games use about 1GB on 1600k, and about 2GB on 3000k. I've found that the difference is negligible between 3000k and 1600k given the difference in download size.

If you just stick to 360p or 480p, it won't be too bad. I think a movie trailer in 720p is about 100MB, so if you watch longer stuff in high quality, you can get up around half a gig pretty quickly.

Thanks heaps for that, I've watched 2 full games this week and 2 halfs on League pass so that would be 4GB's.

What is 1600kbs like?

What is your monthly quota?

I thought 3000kb is more around 3gb a game.

But the difference between 1.6 and 3 is negible. I watch full screen on my 22" monitor. Hardly any difference.

If you want to know in general how much you have used, there is a great little add-on for firefox called netusage (Provided your ISP is listed) that gives you a regular update of where your at with your download.

If your more interested in what is exactly coming in or going out from your network, I reckon this is a great little app called NetLimiter...It tells you everything going in or going out:thumbsu:

Between the both of these, you should be able to keep on top of what's happening :)

I'm pretty happy with my Optus Cable. $50 for 50/70, $60 for 75/75, $70 for 250/250. I start on the 120 plan, if I need more during the month, I bump it up to the 150 or 500 plan, then back down to 120 the following month.

What is your monthly quota?

I thought 3000kb is more around 3gb a game.

3000kb = 375Kb/s

Most games last ~2hrs 15mins so that's something like 8000 seconds.

8000 x 375Kb/s = 3,000,000Kb. So yeah, pretty close to 3 gig a game. Even more for the nationally televised ones which run 2.45 or so.

Although the time-out screens would use up very little, so if you're not switching over to other games, I'd guess it'd be more like 2.5 gigs a game
