What we lacked this year was pretty obvious I thought

-Pace & creativity out of the backline
-Pace in the midfield
-Hard Ball gets in the middle
-Another big Defender
-Mental toughness

I think we could draft a rough diamond very late in the draft to help with the first 2 points. Shane Tipuamantameri could be drafted very late and from what I have seen this year with South Fremantle he could immediately slot into the side. He has pace to burn and is very creative with the footy and could add an element of excitement to the side. The other bonus of this is this could release one of our small defenders into the midfield eg Schammer,Hayden. Both of them would add pace to our midfield.

I know he is a mature aged player and loves to zone off a bit too much but for a late draft pick and a minimum contract he is worth a risk

Hard ball gets will hopefully improve with Josh Carr, Haselby and Belly having a better year with injury but there is no instant fix there. Also Sandilands continuing development may improve things in the middle. If we could pick up Andrew Swallow in the draft that might be a long term solution .

As for the big defender Robert Haddrill should be back firing and Michael Warren should be upgraded from the Rookie list giving us another gorilla in the backline.

As for the mental toughness that is what the coaches get paid big bucks for

Sorry for rambling on so much

Browne, Gilmore, Woods...

How about Woods, Webster, Browne, Seigert, Smith and Schofield(please).

Trade Polak if the opportunity of a key forward comes up to allow McPharlin to go back to CHB.
Or trade him for a key CHB to let McPharlin stay forward and become a highlight reel specialist.

....and a good run for the team with injury would be nice next year.

Polak is your CHB ,sheeesh ,he's only 21.This guy will turn things around next 2 years and i hope it is at freo. You are saying trade a CHB for a CHB,which will mean we will get some 'hasbeen' like whitnall or hay who are on the way down and out.

He's got a year or two. Not to just turn around his skills and form but to bulk up. He really needs to add some muscle otherwise we just won't have any use for him because he'll be easily beaten. He has all the potential in the world, just not the fire power to use it!

Trade him only 'if' the the right deal comes along. Unless something ideal gets thrown on the table then we'll most probably end up keeping him. I wouldn't suggest we just 'get rid of him'. ...and yes, I would trade a CHB for a CHB.

Farmer and Medhurst should both be keepers. Farmer is obviously the better player at the moment but turning 29 next year it would be wise to keep the apprentice(Medhurst) around.

I have heard from a reliable source that the FFC will look at trading him ...again, it's only if the right deal comes along. Personally I think we should keep him.

I'd be fine with a Medhurst trade. We could use him to get a tall midfielder or draft picks (and pick a midfielder or ruckmen).

That is such a lame-arse thing to say. We have plenty of talent, perhaps in some cases it was the application that was lacking. Try a more hard-edged insult next time, or don't bother, seriously.

We can't be that "untalented" if we were the first visiting team to beat your lot at home for eleventy squillion weeks or whatever it was.

And how long ago was that?

I'm with IP on this one. It wasn't really the talent that was the problem but the basic skills such as marking, finding targets with the kicks and handballs. Too many times did we just drop a sidder or do a look away handball or just over/under kick the footy that it just had too many turnovers which in the end costed us too much momentum and overall cost us the game.

What Connolly needs to do in the pre season is, along with fitness, just work on all those basics and keep pounding and pounding them in so that they come to each player automatically. Even the elites need to practise the basics and this would slash the amount of turnovers and therefore win us more games.

Surely a BIG part of what we lacked was time for a restructured team to come to terms with the fact that we now have a FF and CHF to kick to. Medhurst struggled with the new role, and the whole game plan needs to continue to evolve.
