I am now confident that the audit wont be done in time to lose draft picks, but what will you do if we start with minus premiership points? I am starting to feel strangely confident that we wont, but what happens if we do? I got furious even thinking about this!

Whilst you would want to avoid either, I'd much prefer to lose points rather than draft picks.

Players picked up with the No 1 & 2 draft picks would probably take a couple of years to develop anyway (assuming Carlton goes for youth rather than recycled). I'd rather have the talent at the club and suffer some short term pain (points) for the sake of long term gain (extra talent)

Um...rot! Look at Hodge and Kelly...THey start playing well straight away!

I agree, while it might hurt our chances significantly for making the top 8 for next year, it'd still be much better then losing top picks. Carlton will be looking to build around the players picked in the draft so they can't lose those picks.

Not necessarily. Like Luke Ball at the Saints, Brendan Goddard (who will get at 1 or 2) intends to play school football in 2003 so will not be appearing in our seniors until at least 2004. Daniel Wells who seems a certainty to be in the top 2 also could well make an impact though I doubt it will in a matchwinning capacity. Our improvement next year will come from coaching (hopefully) and most of all, an injury free run to our upper echelon ..... if they haven't forgotten how to play.

I was taking Goddard into account, but Wells should play (unless we get Salopek)...

I would have thought that if the AFL was going to impose a loss of premiership points on Carlton, then the breach of the Salary Cap would have to be quite severe.

I'm actually starting to feel confident that Carlton should be o.k. If Carlton were in as much trouble as the media is making out, then John Elliot is a very very brave man coming out saying that Carlton has nothing to worry about. If in fact Carlton is found guilty, John has NO CHANCE in being pres next year!!

I would have to agree that losing draft picks would be worse than losing premiership points. If Carlton keep picks 1 & 2, i'm tipping Brendan Goddard and Daniel Wells will be at Carlton next year.

By the way, I know somebody who knows someone in the very inner sanctum at Carlton. Should have an answer to post mid week with the latest that is happening with the AFL investigation!!

Stay tuned..

a brisbane supporter telling us off about the salary cap!!! well sorry that we dont have a million dollars more than every other club!!!
well i reckon we will be ok, i mean something has to go our ways this year.
i would much rather lose points then the only good thing that comes out of finishing on the bottom

POINTS

We lose points, we will finish further down the ladder, yet that rewards us with higher draft picks next year????

Seems I must have missed something. Carlton have been caught cheating but allowed to get away with it. Can you point me to the evidence for that brissie4???

PS, I believe the AFL does not currently have in its rules the ability to dock premiership points.

This is a no brainer. If given the choice (not likely) I would lose the Premiership points before the draft picks. Only stipulation I would make if I was running the AFL is that if say 3 games are deducted and Carlton only wins 7 games in 2003 (which gives them 16 premiership points) I would disqualify them from concession picks for the following draft.

Good point OMH - I'm sure the league would take that into account. It would be a crack-up if they didn't though (virtually a reward for cheating / mis-manangement):D
