I have just flicked thru the latest "LEADER" local paper we get here in Elwood, and found a report by Phil Cleary (the relic from coburg) and he mentions something along the lines of Carlton; yes the blues of princes oops optus oval; looking at incorporating fitzroy into their vfl team hence fielding Carlton-Fitzroy???????? No I wasn't holucinating the paper is dated 2 july 2001. Has anyone else heard any of this malarky? Does Bill Atherton know anything? Has the foundation been approached?

I certainly haven't heard anything to that effect.

Which Leader is it? I get the Glen Eira leader (not too far from you), but I doubt its the same one.

I'd love to see the article. Are any Fitzroy people mentioned as contacts for it?

The blues want to merge because they want to avoid the extra cost of having a stand alone club. It says that Carlton are looking at resurrecting the Fitzroy jumper.

Mobben' what did I e-mail you about 6 weeks ago re the same thing and I live in bloody England and I knew, that Carlton have alreadyn talked to the VFL re this matter and the VFL are interested in the venture, I'll try and suss things out but all is quiet at present but yes they are talking.

Maybe there was more to the pre brisbane/carlton game parade of Fitzroy living members of the team of our century???????? I thought at the time it was a kind jesture, but now????????? Filthy coniving swines!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoops a flash back: on that particular day I was a guest in a corporate box at optus and had a few too many reds and vb chasers and ended the day with an unidentified bloke ( I had bad eye sight at the time) singing the fitzroy theme song at the top of our lungs. We didn't get kicked out so maybe they were impressed with our passionate rendition?
