SANFL and VFL are VERY CLOSE, but ALL the VFL recruits that come over to the SANFL say the standard is the same but the SANFL is a more physical league.
Centrals are a brilliant side and it is mostly made up of non-AFL listed players, now here comes the bit that a lot of people fail to understand. Because the VFL has more AFL listed players, it is perceived to be stronger. But because those AFL listed players are in and out of the AFL side, they struggle to BOND and GEL with their teamates of the VFL club. Look at Centrals, their side is an absolute ROCK SOLID GELLED team, a super super close knit bunch that know each other sideways and play as a team they are so so settled and that is what makes a good standard, a TEAM not a host of supposedly better talented players running around and not being as well gelled together. Centrals would beat any side outside the AFL more than anyone could beat them, infact they could beat a composite SANFL side made up of the best players from the remaining 8 clubs they are that strong atm.
And a lot of those AFL listed players that are in and out of the VFL get delisted and come over to the SANFL and they are never the ones to fully dominate, look at guys like Perkins, Kenna, Perry, Kane, Morrisson etc. They'd all be lucky to make Centrals side. Maybe Kenna and Kane could squeeze in but I'd doubt it.
And it is not just Centrals, it is the same for the other clubs, the less players coming in and out of a side the better, allows for a settled team and not a host of individuals.
SANFL has beaten the VFL 2 times out of their last 3 meetings including the most recent. Also beaten the WAFL the past 3 times.
The actual game atmopshere and crowd size also contributes to the feeling of the game as well, bigger crowds will lift and inspire players rather than a few 100.
