Listening earlier to SEN David Schwartz became very frustrated with a caller who suggested Gary Lyon comeback and take a role at MFC

Schwartz went on to say that Gary is busy with media commitments, but also that he has turned his life around recently and he is in a good place right now...

What did he mean by 'turned his life around...'

Did Schwarz let his guard down when frustrated and let something slip? Or is there something about Gary I haven't heard before?

It annoys me that everyone puts the pressure on Garry each and every time something goes wrong at the club. Time for someone else to step up and do it.

Nothing.

I don't care what is happening in his private life. Good on him for being in a good space.

The only thing that matters for us is that the MFC doesn't panic and call him up in some wafty advising role again. He's run his race in that department... Not a knock on him but that's not what we need at all.

To be honest, I don't want someone at the club, who doesn't want to be at the club. Whatever role anyone partakes at the MFC, it should never be perceived as a burden, they should take it, and act accordingly with the utmost pride.

This!

He was always good entertainment value, wasn't he :D

Garry was lining up too many things......
Also the rumour I've heard...or the rumour that has been alluded to so much that I kind of imagined may have been Ox's muse.

his dees antics were the best, loved his "Flyby" to kelvin moore at 1:50

Awesome mate. Just beautiful. Saved a copy of that material for later too... should come in very handy around here :)

Garry allegedly had a pretty handy midlife crisis. Good for him if he's got through it but we really shouldn't be looking to him for anything beyond an informal role like a forward positioning coach.

The media spin in the article I read earlier was just targeted at making Lyon look uninterested or uncaring which i'm sure is untrue.

Every Melbourne supporter is hurting and i'm sure Garry feels the same way we do but he knows his limitations. He's not the savior and our problems outweigh those of just one man's actions

I feel a bit sorry for Garry whenever the Dees go through a rough patch. It doesn't matter what the problem is, everyone's first reaction is to turn to Garry to be the messiah.
When we needed a new coach everyone said he should step up. This is despite the fact that the only coaching I can recall him doing in the last 10 years is an u16 rep side and a few International Rules series.
When we need new administrators people once again call for Garry to step up. Once again, this is despite the fact that he does not have any experience with running even the smallest organisation at an elite level.

Everyone needs to stop thinking of him as the answer to every problem. Rather, he needs to play a role that suits his strengths as part of a much larger unit. His media career gives him great exposure to the masses and allows for subtle influence when needed. It doesn't make him a great coach or a successful executive.

The Melbourne Football Club has associations with some of the most powerful and successful businessmen and women in Victoria. Let's leverage those relationships and find the right person for the right job instead of asking Garry to be something he doesn't have the skills or ambition to be.

Top post have felt much the same way for sometime.
In the long term this may be the tough love to set us on a better path.

Garry's worried about one thing and that is Garry. Full stop.If he's not getting nothing out of it he could not care less.

Rumor is fact that Garry did have a mid-life crisis and was separated from his wife for a few years (roughly 7 years ago?), moved out of the family home etc... They have in the past couple years rekindled the marriage and are living together again. Purely speculation, but possibly the wife has made it clear that he needs to spend more time with the family and less time at the club?? Bad club environment leading to Garry going off the rails?? Few too many frothies with the lads?

The only reason he agreed to help in 2011 was because one of his closest mates, that happened to be seriously ill at the time, reached out and asked for his assistance in relation to the club that gave Garry so much. It says more about Jimmy's ability to persuade others to assist in his cause rather than anything to do with Garry.
Once the job was done and Healy had been locked in Garry stepped away. Throughout the whole process I'm not sure what Garry "got out of it" except the satisfaction of knowing he had helped out a friend in need and the club he loves.

Give the guy a break. He's had a rough couple of years with his personal life, and of course one of his best mates dying. He loves the media and never wanted to do any coaching/admin work at the club (at this point anyway). The fact he's done anything is a credit to him. Knowing Gary, if things get too bad, he'll jump in (probably unwillingly) and put the club before his personal happiness. I wouldn't say many here would do the same.

Guy is a champ and people need to the back the f*ck off (to put it bluntly :)).

You clearly don't know the bloke. Stupid comment.
