Hutchy just said on The Footy Show that Wheatley is retiring and Whelan and Robbo are getting the old tap on the shoulder.

Robbo seems to want to pull an Yze and White and pray someone is going to pick him up. Wants to go to the Doggies, I think he is a few years too late.

All three have been great servants of the club, wish them all the best and thank them for their services.

I will miss the Wrecker's crunching tackles, Wheat's huge bombs and Robbo's hangers. Some good memories however the time is right to move on.

Who gets number 31? Maybe Scully.

It would be a very Whelan type of thing to do to just try and slide out of the back, minimal fuss.

I hope we give him the send-off the little Wrecker deserves.

Wheels has been me and my brother's favourite player for years now. Shame he kept getting injured, much like Wheats. Is a real shame that Wheels won't be in red and blue next year (if that's the case).

It was the right time for all 3 players.

Favourite memories of each:

Whelan - His game on Ricciuto at Princess Park one day, killed him. Also that hit on Hird.

Robbo - 2 hangers stick out; one against Freo at the Dome and a big mark during a come from behind win against the Swans at the G.

Wheatley - Can't go past that first supergoal.

I love all these boys but would have loved to see Robo play on.. the reality is that we still need to get another 3 people off our list... that is scarey to think of cause I looked through and our list and think I will be the following:

Bell, Daniel - can't see many others going before him
Wheatley, Paul - GONE
Whelan, Matthew - GONE
Robertson, Russell - GONE
Newton, Michael - If Robo goes so should Newton
McDonald, James - Hate to say it but I think JMac is next in line.

Rookies:

Zomer, Trent - GONE
Valenti, Shane - maybe

Don't me wrong I dont wanna see any of these players go but I think they just might get the tap on the shoulder.

People will also say PJ will go but I'm not buying into that.

I agree with the statement I have bolded. Would of loved to see Robbo play on, he's been my favourite Melbourne player for so long and his passion and love of the club is just...heartwarming. Love the bloke and not ashamed to say so, gonna miss him badly. Hope he doesn't lower himself to the doggies standards but, see what happens I guess. Can;t believe they let him go. Was expecting him to stay and help the development of our younger forwards...ahwell, what can ya do. Gonna miss ya mate.

As for the underlined italic bit... I DON'T THINK SO! sorry bout the caps but... Letting go of Valenti would be stupid. Did you see him last week? He's a superstar in the making and last week was a sneak preview of the future. He's gonna be a gun and he WILL be staying at Melbourne. No doubt about it. Would be willing to bet my house on that one lol.

As for Wheels and Wheatley, will miss them both but not as much as Robbo. Loved Wheels, was meh about Wheatley though. However, I did enjoy his long bombs from half back. :D

Anyone find it odd that there's no mention of the retirements on the Dees website or any of the papers?

Hutchy was probably only assuming that's what's gonna happen lol.
GIVE ROBBO ANOTHER YEAR!!!!
...please :D

There's a small article about Whelan and Wheatley in the Hun today.

That Advocate article makes no sense to me, what is Robbo trying to say, sounds like he's just annoyed TFS broke the news before he could.

Article up now on the Club website, only mentions Whelan and Wheatley.

Good to see Whelan has a little boy, Kai Whelan. Father-son please. :thumbsu:
