Whelan - Half Time Melee

Just been watching the replay of the incident at Half Time involving Voss and Whelan before the rest of the boys came over to lend a helping hand.

Whelan sure has a bit of mongrel in him, was more than holding his own against a couple of bigger Brisbane players, great to watch.

Incidentally, he was just about our best player on the night too.

Has a great career at Melbourne but similar to McDonald, never seems to get the recognition he deserves. Davey had also said Whelan was great to him when he first came over.

Whelan and Rivers are clearly our best 2 defenders. Thats the difference between us and the crows. They have the likes of Johncock, Rutten, Basset, Edwards, Mattner and Mcleod. Compare that to our Carroll, Whelan, Rivers, Ferguson, Miller, Wheatley, C.Johnson....big diff. We are almost there though.

As a small defender he is one of the best in the business. Also fantastic under pressure and is a bloody good tackler, there has been countless times where his tackling has saved a goal or stopped the opposition in their tracks.

Rivers had a goal saving tackle too...supurb.

Loves a good spear tackle does the wrecker. Nailed either Embley or Staker when we played them this year, brilliant to watch. Always remember a mark he took against the Roos up at Manuka, dived in front of a leading Shannon Grant and stole it out of nowhere.

Don't forget about Browny in the list of great defenders for the Demons ooze. 2nd best for Sandy last weekend. Been fantastic for us over the past 6 years and he ain't finished yet. He'll be back in the 1's in a couple of weeks if not this week.
