Hardwick has received tons of praise for Richmond's premiership given that he's the head coach and rightly so. This time last year opposition supporters were laughing at Richmond for not sacking him after such a disastrous season.

Balme, Caracella and Leppitsch have all received their due praise as well. None of these blokes were at Richmond last year when they finished 13th with just 8 wins, but they all came to Punt Road this year and helped turn Richmond's on field fortunes around.

However, my main gripe is that Terry Wallace has received no credit whatsoever for Richmond's premiership. When he was Richmond's coach he had a major say in the drafting of Riewoldt, Cotchin, Rance and Martin. These 4 blokes are all elite, and carry Richmond's team week in week out. Richmond don't win the premiership this year without one of these four blokes in their team regardless of the changes made in the coaches box between the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

So when will Terry Wallace receive the credit that he deserves for Richmond's premiership?

A delayed reaction, sure. But he put the building blocks in place for both and deserves full credit.

It's almost like there is some lag or delay in things, Wallace leaves and a few years down the line - that club is successful.

It's not quite as pronounced as the Ty Vickery effect (which is instantaneous - just look at the respective fortunes of Tigers and Hawks this year) - but it exists.

Saints and Demons, you know have two choices - get Terry or get Ty - then immediately jettison them.... Its the only way...

He dosnt take the blame for recruiting Tambling over Buddy, the same way he dosnt take credit for recruiting Cotch or Rance.

Everyone knows drafting is a lottery. hell, the year Richmond drafted Martin, we also chose Griffiths at 19 - oh, bugger, Fyfe was 20 (Even Freo passed on him the first time around).

In 2007, Cotchin fell into our lap - it was either him or Kreuzer. Carlton had already drafted Murphy (2005, #1), Gibbs (2006, #1) and just traded for another handy mid called Chris Judd. OF COURSE they were going to pick Kreuzer.
In 2006 we swapped our #8 draft pick for Polak and #13. If we really wanted Riewoldt, don't you think we would have kept that pick?
If anyone wants to give Wallace credit for later drafts, they need to look at 2005 (ugh), and 2008 - it's hard to know which was worse. We drafted 6 players in those 2 years, and got a total of less than 200 games out of them - mostly to Vickery.

It's a lottery.
