Yes, yes, we all know the US were actively supporting the Iraqi government against Iran. What we rarely acknowledge was that this support came after much lobbying from Europeans (primarily the French) to start matching their support.

The US was not the first in there - primary support for Saddam was Russian and French.

Remarkable how a 12 year-old had the resources to conduct a nation-wide inventory of the casualties accross all of Kuwait"

Iraqi soldier: "What thell do you think you're doing sunshine?"

12-year old Kuwaiti: "Oh , just doing a body count to pass the time of day"

Iraqi soldier: "So what's the score?"

12 year old Kuwaiti: "7 - ONLY. May I compliment you, your troops and Mr Saddam on the incredibly humane job you all did in your relatively bloodless invasion of our country"

Iraqi soldier: " Thanks, but I'm afraid I've got some bad news"

12 year-old Kuwaiti: "How's that?"

Iraqi soldier: "Ther's more to Kuwait than just the street you live in"

I think your numbers are wrong here.

They killed a lot more.
There are a lot more that are still missing....

And they basically - pulled up the trucks and looted the place.
Then fired most of the Kuwait oil well heads.
Environmental disaster.

Seems your 12 year old has a selective memory.

Not what I've read Lester. I've linked an article from BBC on the other threads.

the CIA backed the coup that bought the Ba'ath Party to power in the first place. It was America's opportunity to turn Iraq from a pro-soviet regime, to a pro-US regime. This occurred in 1969.

Before that, yes, the French and Russians were the primary support. However it was not Saddam's regime, hence irrelevant.

From 1969, the Ba'ath regime were pro-US, and in the words of the ex-leader of the Iraqi govt, Saddam was the 'US's Boy'.

Spiderman...Hitler Dictatorship??

By the 1930's Hitler was leader of arguably, the greatest military and economic power in europe.
-Sadam is the leader of an empoverished 3rd world country.

Hitler broke every disarmament provision imposed on Germany.
-Not yet has the UN found proof of any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

"unecessarily kill" ????..what's a necessary kill then?

The US has killed so many innocent people. One example is in Afghanistan they dropped cluster bombs disguised as food packages. Was that meant for Bin Laden who would be running around getting food packages??

Well I must have met a Kuwaity that was happy to lie about the hole thing then.

I took what he told me as the truth. Silly me. Should have researched it a bit more.

If I meet him again I will ask him why he lied.

I listened to a report on Newsradio today about Kuwaitis celebrating the anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait which apparantly occurred on 25th February.

It seems that the ordinary person in the street, indeed regards the US and its allies as the liberators and furhermore regards Saddam and Iraq as the enemy and an ongoing threat.

Of the several people interviewed, NOT ONE had anything good to say about Iraq and to the contrary NOT ONE had any real complaint about the US or its allies. In fact, opinion was was the prescence of the forces currently amassed in the Gulf was welcomed.

Now, the cynically minded could dismiss the report as cheap US "propaganda"

Bear in mind, however that Newsradio Australia is just about as close to an independant source of World news events as you can get.

They are not known for reporting any particular slant on World news or having any particular political agenda.

Well worth listening to if you want an informed and dispassionate account of what is going on in the world.

The rubbish breathlessly reported on Commercial TV and Radio is not worth a pinch of parrot poop.

You also get regular and accurate updates on nearly every major sporting event occurring locally or internationally.
