Would not be surprised at all if we sign Corey Lyons as a specialists reserves player. Think the club is very keen to keep him around in some capacity.

Sorry to intrude, just heard/seen that Sam Skinner will be training with the Roos over summer. Key fwd/back? Done 2 acls?

Yes. 3 I think

Yes. 3 I think
We have an ok record of turning blokes into ok/goodish players after an acl
2 or 3 is worrying, paul ahern did 2 and had an amazing debut game and 2nd game disappeared off the face of the earth after that. Flynn Perez has been ok so far

Sam did move out of his place in Brisbane and has been staying up on the Sunshine Coast I think its with his girlfriend and doing lots of fishing. He is a good bloke and I still think he can get a career going. Very hard at it for a big bloke just never got a run at it up here but had a great end of 2019 and a really good pre-season in 2020 but with no injuries just couldn't get a position and he is not a ruckman which is all we had for him when Steph Martin was injured.

Sam has effectively played 2 full seasons on his knees now I don't think there is any lasting issue. He would have at least 30 to 40 full games under his belt now.

Would we sign anyone?

We have an academy of 17, 18 and 19 year olds to fill out our reserves team if needed.

I would expect players like Allison, Hammelmann, and ex academy kids, who are too good for the QAFL to sign on with Aspley in the new East Coast VFL.
Allison is playing for Aspley VFL this year it appears

Edit: and Hammelmann

Dunno whether they will compete with the big boys, but it must be good for Qld footy to have the tier below playing agin the best. On paper, starting to look like the best we can put up.

Bit of a Hornets fan now, for Qld footy.

I think this VFL/East Coast competition is the best thing to happen to Qld footy for a long time. It will be great to have a genuine reserves competition and hopefully it will provide wonderful opportunities for player development comparable to the SANFL and WAFL. My guess is that the number of teams will reduce over time but for now all is good.

I wonder if any of the academy kids will play for Aspley, or if they’ll play strictly in the NAB League and Academy series, and for our reserves and at QAFL level?
