Let me start by saying I'd have five Chris Judd's,the guy is a super-star.
BUT,where is the leadership right now?I know he appears to be a restrained,non-demonstrative character, but shouldn't the captain be kicking some heads out there?
He is an awesome talent but I wonder if captaincy sits all that well with him?

My other gripe is the total lack of support he gets.Pundits have been talking about the poor quality disposal he has,but does anyone consider that he is left to deal with the opposition alone and this in turn ensures he will always be under pressure when he has the ball!!

As he might not be seen as the best off field leader I still think he's the best man for the job. Who else would you recommend Lukesta? Just interested.

I can see what you are saying, but if we have players who are in need of a "rocket" on the field to get their minds on the job, then we are in bigger trouble than I thought.

FFS, these guys train their butts off, and all week focus on the game, get a rev up pre-match, and surely, after the Dogs game, individual pride must drive them you would think.

I don't think a rant and rave from the skipper is going to be any more effective than it is from the coach, and in fact, just before they went off at half time in the Dogs game he did get them in and did speak and it looked "demonstrative" if that is the right word.

Didn't have any impact at all.

I'm not talking about replacing him.My point is,don't you think he should be getting the group 'up' at the moment, don't you think we should see some visible on-field leadership?
Something, anything to say "This isn't acceptable you blokes, fire up!"

Just saw your post,mate.
Well whatever they're doing isn't working!
It has to be a mindset,FFS look how we played against Geelong and the Saints!!!!

I'm not really in a position to comment on the on-field stuff as if the camera isn't on them I don't see it, but does Judd ever run over to someone and give them a rev up, be it due to something positive or negative?
If I was Captain of the CFC (a girl can only dream), I would be trying everything I could to pump us up if we were down. I realise that they aren't Auskick kids and they should be running out on the ground knowing what their job is for the day but some need a little extra poking in the right direction to get them going

On the coverage of the game there was footage of Judd on the boundary animatedly instructing someone about something. Whether he was given a teammate pointers or discussing the gameplan with an official on the boundary line I couldn't tell from the angle.

With the lack of support he is getting you cant help but feel we are killing him and it is not right. The guy is expected to get 25 kicks a game, 15 handballs, 10 marks, kick goals , lead the team and take up everyone's slack and the list goes on.

Juddy is only human. Maybe we should ask superman to captain us.

Perhaps a little too much poking could be the problem LMBB ?:D

Kreuzer has been flogged to death if you think about it.
Same with Fevola last year.
Eddie this year.

Not enough players challenged.... and the coach relies on the few.

eddie has been our CHF... its laughable... the amount of ball that goes to him at CHF ontop of his head..... amazing!!

Oh the things I could say to that. But shouldn't....

I'm not saying that Judd is a dud captain and needs to step up, because it's blatantly obvious that he already does a great deal. I'd just like to see him get some fire in the belly and rev the boys up a bit more. But that's his personality I guess, very much the quiet achiever who prefers to fly under the radar. When I spoke to him at PP the morning after the Saints game he had a massive graze on his forehead and one on his knee from doing so much grunt work so I don't doubt for one second that he is slack.

Well said Miss Hobart!

Guys I'm not saying sack him as captain,I'm querying the fact as to whether we need to see him verbally getting into the team and getting more leadership out of other players on the field.

Judd trys hard, him and simpson are the only two midfielders we have who will put their heads over the ball and go hard every time and put their bodies in hard.

Without being bitter towards Juddy at all, I felt the same way when he was captain for us.

Just doesnt seem comfy for him, same as at WCE.

Last year, the Blues traded a first-round pick - a price regarded as over the odds then for Brock McLean to play a similar role.

No one regarded that trade as the over the odds last year.

The fact our midfield is struggling to win contested possessions and lay tackles suggests the decision to go off after Mclean was justified.

We weren't in the position to select an in and under midfielder like Mclean in the national draft.

Just like Collingwood weren't in the position to draft a ruckman and inside midfielder who were ready made.

It must be good to be paid to make stuff up.

I agree.
they're professional footballers, the motivation should come from within. when the players arent fully motivated or off their game, it is up to the coach to get them back on track and bridge the gap.

judd is the sort of skipper that leads by example.. he leads by putting his head over it and winning the contested ball, not by stamping his feet and delivering sprays.

if the penny hasnt dropped with some of the players, judds on-field leadership isnt to blame

Nope, It's Miss NW Coast to you!

He leads by example, surely you can see that? I sit on the couch and watch the game and even i feel inspired by him. If his teammates cant see how hard he tries for them game in game out and be motivated to elevate their own performaces by it, then screaming and yelling at them isnt going to help either.

There is a reason why you dont see ratts blowing his lid and spitting on those standing closest to him at quarter breaks, take a look at the kids around him.... soon as he starts pointing fingers and yelling at them, they are going to turn within themselves and play even worse. The team plan is to take the opposition on and run and gun, if you scream at a 20 yr old because he got caught with the ball he isnt going to be running and taking players on any time soon = bye bye game plan.

Ive never seen malthouse yell at beams, or clarkson yell at cyril even their captains dont do it. Save the "kicking heads" for guys that have been there long enough to know better, ie scotland, hoops etc.

The young guys are 2-3 years away from being mature enough to respond positively to a good old fashioned abuse session.

Exactly, he is wearing down because he has to do it all himself... One play last week summed it up, there was a ball up in middle of the ground. Judd gets the Ball, and is immediately swamped, the ball falls out and Judd pushed aside from the contest.. A swans player picks up the ball while Judd comes back to the contest, makes the tackle, spoil and force another ball up... The frustrating thing was all this was done within 2 metres of Gibbs and Scotland who just stood there watching.

Yes i did by a long way and so many other people. You never give away a first pick for a player with so many injuries in the past few years especially one with not much leg speed. We choked and needed a hard body player and decided at all cost and get him with the first pick.It was a very poor decision by the club as we could have got him in a later pick.In the event someone did get him we could have just got another young talent with the later pick.We all know the Carlton Connection with him so i think that also clouded our judgment.I hope it can work to our advantage next year with a big pre season from him but injuries and pace will be something we hope can be fixed. The club needs to not carry to many players in the 22 with poor pace in today's game.
