We went into this draft looking for a ruckman and a power forward. We picked up Hudson, but where is the forward we need?
Even if we pick up a young key position player, he's going to need at least a couple of years to step up.
I'm extremely disappointed we were unable to get someone like a Brennan, White etc..
Hell i would even of given Sam Power's selection for someone like Leigh Brown or Lance Whitnall.
The talk about Minson becoming a forward is fanciful at best. He might become a good ruckman one day, but I doubt he'll ever become a forward.
Just my opinion, but I think we've missed a chance.

Leigh Brown in the PSD perhaps?

Maybe a late go at a mature age player from a state league?

Brad Smith (despite the knee injuries he had at the Eagles) is an option considering the season he had.

Go to the Eagles board and see what they say about Brad Smith's knees. Go to the Carlton and Kanagaroos board and see what they say about Whitnall and Brown. Why do we think these players would be worth trading for when their current supporters laugh at them? People on here seem to want to trade for trading sake. Desperation me thinks.

The latter two were only mentioned here as ones we'd probably avoid in the PSD.

There were no decent power forwards being offered for trade anyway. Fevola was never going to leave Carlton.
There were no realistic options out there worth pick 5.
We need to draft very well with picks 5 and 19 especially, and work hard on Tiller, O'Shea, McDougall and Skipper.
Eade and Clayton have done very well retaining pick 5 and upgrading pick 22 to 19, as well as giving us several picks in the the 3rd and 4th rounds, getting Hudson and Callan and offloading soft outside players like McMahon and Power.

I know all about Smith's knees. It was terrible for him to struggle so much at the Eagles by just pure bad luck.

But he got through an entire season relatively unscathed last year and kicked loads of goals (though he apparently doesn't like training...).

Mind you, forwards probably aren't the biggest problem in our side.

Well said Libba. Don't forget too that earlier this year Rocket said that he would be playing Tommy Williams in the forward line for the 2008 practice matches at least.

Doesn't like training/kicked a bag in the WAFL.....yeah, sounds like he's worth a punt:rolleyes:

I am glad that they didn't draft for drafts sake. We have picked up two good players, and have a couple of high draft picks that will land us another couple of good talented kids. A good balance I think - well done Eade & Clayton.

Mate, its trading period, good power forwards do not grow on trees and teams hang on to them like dear life.

The way forward is to recruit a couple of talls and we now have two picks in the top 20, so watch this space. Also we have to develop what we have now ie Tiller, Wight, maybe Williams, Skipper, Minson, O'Shea.

Dissapointed we haven't picked up a tall forward but yes the reality is we would be overpaying they are all relatively average players. At the end we've got a ruckman and some decent draft picks.

Gotta agree, just glad there wasn't a panic pick in hope for a kpp.Keep the picks use the draft. The onle way to get a gun is to give up the world.
