480 yards. 6 TDs. Packer records. Not bad for a backup.
In the game he started last year he came within seconds of knocking off new england as well.

He deserves a shot at the starting spot next year.
I reckon Seattle and Washington will have a big crack at him.

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

Steve Buerlein(?), Rob Johnson, Matt Cassell, Tommy Maddox etc etc.... lessons on one good seaosn doesn't make a career, let alone one game.
Defences soon work them out.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has struggled since his recent re-signing.

Enough teams struggling at QB to warrant a crack though.

Who says he will go? i think there is still a small chance of him staying. otherwise could sign anywhere Skins, Jets, Miami, Seahawks, The 49ers might even take a shot at him.

Why would he choose to remain the backup to one of the best QBs when he has a legitimate chance at starting and signing a long term contract for another team? He could easily get a Kolb/Cassell type deal elsewhere and its not like him staying in GB would guarantee him another ring.

I think the Redskins are the most likely at this stage, but Miami and Seattle (their GM was at GB when they drafted Flynn) are also possibilities.

Green Bay.

**** Rodgers off, obviously we don't need him.

How could anyone bench this dude after that game?? We've had some decent guys throw the pigskin for us, and this one just out-numbered them all, on a cold, freezing shitty day at Lambeau.

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

He will be given the opportunity to start somewhere no doubt, has been sitting behind Rodgers now since 2008 where he beat out 2nd round pick Brian Brohm. It's obvious he has the tools to succeed in the NFL, whether he does or not is a different matter. So he has had to sit behind one of the best QBs currently in the NFL, learn the plays and how to read defences and been to Mike McCarthy's QB school. Someone is going to give him a chance.

He will need to go to a team that runs a WCO though.

Most obvious teams right now are Washington, Seattle and Miami. Jets could also be a consideration with Sanchez not really improving.

Should trade Rodgers, obviously a product of the system, just afraid he wouldn't fetch much for us in a trade, would be happy with a 7th rd pick really :p:D

free agent at the end of this year. will probably be franchise tagged so he can be traded.

Would be stunned if he was. It would be a huge risk to pay a back-up upwards of 15m and potentially be stuck with him. Particularly when the franchise tag could be used on a Finley (I'd let him walk - Bubba Franks anyone??), Wells (cost ALOT less than 15m) or Bush :p (can you Tag a ST player or would he be bracketed as a corner?).

Let him walk and get a 3rd? round compo pick in 2013.

100% agree.

Someone will offer him stupid money to be there starting QB. He had a ton of talent around him, even with Jennings out. If he goes to Washington were there is little talent around him, he'll be a bust.

That's more like it.
Keep the next brady, and piss off the new bledsoe. Obviously past his best ;)

In all seriousness though. I'd say washington.

I smell the jets going for luck.
I smell the seahawks waiting for barkley.

Miami might try too.

This exactly. Although I don't think Finely gets the tag, I'm thinking it's going to be for Wells.

I'll take a 3rd or 4th round compo pick for a player that we got in the 7th round.

Why use the franchise tag on an average* C? The franchise tag amount doesnt distinguish between O-lineman (unless they've changed that aspect of the tag rules too)

*as in not elite

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

Personally I don't think Finely deserves the big pay-check that his is looking for instead is given a 2yr contract that is incentive based. Bush while a gun ST player is an average corner so it would be useless on him. So I think they may use it on Wells for a year and draft another C and see how they go, rather than giving Wells a multi-year deal.

Although if Finely looks like leaving then I think they will probably tag him rather than let him walk.

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

At least Cassel basically had a full season - this was one game. You wouldn't think the Packers would go crazy and do something stupid in the next couple of weeks.

In saying that, you still need a good back up. Rodgers gets injured, you need a quality replacement to slot in. Unless thier 3rd stringer is decent.

I would love us to have a crack at him but I also hope that we are making a serious play for a QB in the draft.

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

Personally I don't think Harrell (3rd string) is any good. I think if Flynn does leave we will be drafting a QB in the up coming draft with a late pick, rounds 5-7. Or we could be looking at bringing in a FA (highly unlikely though).

Most likely scenario is: Flynn leaves for starting job elsewhere, Packers draft a QB with late round pick, Harrell and draft pick fight it out in training cap/pre-season to see who is the number 2.

Whichever team takes him will regret it. Better off drafting one this year (Luck, Barkley, even Jones who I'm not a fan of), or waiting until next year's draft (Barkley, Bray, Wilson, Murray). All are better prospects than Flynn.

Flynn is a legitimate starting QB in the NFL. I have no doubt in my mind. In his two starts and preseason games he could make a highlights video that would rival/better all Kolb's and Cassel's games before leaving Philly and NE respectively.

What more can a back-up do?? In his two starts he should have beat a red-hot NE team on the road if it weren't for shit ST's play allowing a 330lb offensive lineman to return a kick 70 yards; then he breaks all kinds of GB records in his second game (something Favre, Starr and Rodgers have never achieved). Not only this, he won a god damn National Championship at LSU :D, and may I say was very impressive in doing so. Could not believe he made it to the seventh round but was stoked to see he made it to the Pack (made up for Brohm in the 2nd round). There were MANY LSU fans that said he was a better prospect than JaFatarse (how'd that turn out :p).

The major ? over his game was his deep ball. Watch the past game and no such doubts should be had anymore. The team that does decide to pay the man will not regret it - I'm certain (besides maybe Jax - Rodgers, Brady or Manning couldn't do anything in that offence).

Re: Wheres Matt Flynn starting next year?

Seattle seem a good fit. Not sure why I just have a feeling Pete Carrol will again aggressively try to get a young QB.

Hope not, last time we got a Packers back up it ended with a Superbowl appearance and a few Pro Bowls but he was never elite. All I want is an elite QB, someone like RG3 or Tannehill.:D
