Pendelbury
Ben Reid
Nathan Brown
Chris Egan
Dane Swan
Maxwell
Brad ****
Dawes
Anthony

I think Ben Reid will be the stand out in years to come, with pendles not far behind.

Either way our furture looks bright:thumbsu:

You could even include Didak, Fraser, Johnson as young guns also:thumbsu:

Serious question, how many times have you seen reid play?

Pendelbury, Shaw and Cloke are the best of them.

I think Pendelbury will be the best of those 3.
Don't think you'll get too many arguments on those nominations.

As far as potential to challenge those three, Dale Thomas, Chris Egan and Ben Reid are probably the three most freaky-talented of the young players.

I saw him play 7 games last year for the Murray Bushrangers. My cousin played for them, so I watched him a fair bit, He will be a GUN.

But this post is purely based on potential, as most havent even played a senior game. But look at the stats:

Top 10 picks:

Thomas
Pendels
Reid
Brown
Egan
Didak
Fraser

I would also say Dawes (before knee), T cloke & H shaw might of been top 10 picks too.

So not many top 10 picks turn out to be duds! I think based on history more than 80% of these players will make it! :thumbsu:

Im sure that pendles will be a star.
But i think nick maxwell is going under the radar. He is tough, courages and a very good defender. He may well be a future skipper but definately an elite defender.

Swan is borderline "young" as is Maxwell (only 6 months younger than Didak).

H.Shaw: Is the best of the younger players. The only query is can he improve much from last year? You would hope so, a move to the midfield would help him. If you wanted to place a bet on one of our players becoming a great player it would easily be Heater.

Thomas: Had a great debut season and really has something special. Could be anything. I rate his potential as a midfielder more than anyone but there is still a query in this area.

Pendlebury: Didn't have as good a season as Thomas but has potential to be a superstar. I rate him alot. It's hard to split him and Thomas as far as potential goes, they both offer something different than the conventional AFL player.

Reid: Much like Thomas and Pendlebury he is a unique player. Could be anything. Not much known at this stage.

Brown: Looks like he'll be a solid player and hopefully will take over one of Wakelin or Presti's spot. Again it's really too early to tell.

Chris Egan: Has all the potential in the world. I am confident he will "make it", and at the very least be a damaging winger/flanker (both forward and back) however he could be so much more. He has passion for the game and IMO is one of the few players who you can tell loves being out there, he just doesn't like VFL games  .

Cloke: I think he will be a very good CHF and surprise the AFL who seriously underrates him as a youngster. If he can be more consistant, and his great quarters become great matches he will be well on his way. Just needs to keep the same intensity and concentration and especially keep some agressiveness.

*****: Too early to tell.

Iles: Don't discount this kid. I think he's a bit of alright.

Anthony: Should be a good player. Flexible player in the mould of Clement but I still think he can play KP.

Dale Thomas IMO. The kid will be the difference between winning from losing. I haven't seen someone at Collingwood make as much impact when he first arrived on the scene as he did since Peter Daicos (and that's saying something).

T Cloke
H Shaw
Thomas
Pendelbury
Ben Reid
Nathan Brown
Chris Egan
Dane Swan
Maxwell

Dunno about the unerlines, Maxwell hasn't done much for me to say yeah he will be a great player. Very courageous though.

The others I really think will be good players, for Collingwood :)

this is my top ten 1.thomas 2. h.shaw 3.t.cloke 4.pendlebury 5.egan 6.reid 7.rusling 8.**** 9.maxwell 10. n.brown not in order:thumbsu:

swan isnt really a young gun because he has been at the club for nearly 5 years[i think]

Thomas by a mile. Just because he didn't dominate against the Kangaroos people have downplayed how good his first year was. Even his very first game last year where he burned off McLeod, kicked a couple of goals and took a screamer. MM decided on him because of the way he played in the TAC grand final. He turned it on and took the game apart. He proved he was a big time player and has shown that with a few preseasons under his belt will do it week in week out.:thumbsu:

Fair enough, at you have seen him. It gives me the *****s when so many people jump on the bandwagon of a kid who they have not seen yet. Alot of people who probably havn't seen him say he is going to be a star. I reckon people should wait and see what he is like in the company of men at full afl match pace before they rap him up too much

Definately Dale Thomas!! He exploded onto the scene, I hardly remember a better debut for Collingwood.

Heath Shaw is a gun, Scott Pendelbury has had a great pre season but at the moment Dale, in my opinion is our best youngster!

by all means I am no recruiting expert, but this kid was just caught my eye, I believe he has the POTENTIAL to be a gun, but fingers crossed he delievers.

Early signs he wlll! :thumbsu:

Don't be drawn in by the hype - Dawes was NOT considered a Top 10 pick before doing his knee. If he hadn't have been injured, had an excellent draft camp, and really drew the attention of a couple of clubs, maybe he could have snuck in, but realistically, he wasn't a Top 10 pick at any point.

And many people questioned whether Heath Shaw was worth the 3rd round pick we drafted him with at the time - His rate of improvement has been nothing short of astonishing. If it had have been said in 2003 that he was going to be one of the best young players in the league, and Brayden Shaw was going to be delisted after 2 years on the list, you would have been laughed out of the room.

Trav Cloke, even as highly rated as he was, would probably have only been CONSIDERED as a Top 10 pick, but in no way would it have been definite.

Why is everyone rating pendles so highly?,
Lets ne honest he really didn't set the world on fire last season
i know it was his first year and i think he'll be pretty handy too,
but judging the responses on this and other boards he is the next big thing

WHY is it so?

That would be because he is a freakish talent - 190cm midfielder who has some of the best evasive skills any of us have ever seen in a young player, and he's extremely footy-smart despite taking up the game full-time as a 17 year old after playing national junior basketball.

People are just assuming that he's going to be the next great midfielder we have after Bucks, which isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination - He should be set for a very big year.

Too add to VV, Pendlebury adds something different, as we're used to seeing short centremen (who were prominently rovers), i.e. The Shaws. A tall midfielder, evasive, with an athletic background, that's what we get with Pendlebury.
I'm sure everyone is very excited.
I am! :)
