First time thread-making ...

So Sam Rowe will be on the LTI list and I wish him a good recovery and a new contract for Season 2018.

We have a six rookies:

JGM
Sheehan
Lebois
Gallucci
Korcheck
ASOS (upgraded for Byrne LTI)

I would go with Sheehan.

I think Sheehan probably fills the spot most needed in the Senior 22 for now of a small defender who beats his man and has good kicking skills.

I think the second small pressure forward spot to complement Wright we have Pickett, Sumner and Lamb, and Lamb appears to be adding towards a Senior 22 match before the others. Gallucci and Lebois have a way to go.

I think JGM and Korcheck are not ready.

Looking forward to the discussion.

Gallucci ( not enough goalkicking impact from existing options) or Sheehan (release Docherty as a full time midfielder) both have claims.

Le Bois missed a number of weeks due to injury.

So ASOS getting games on Byrne's spot? I think he should be the first priority, given we've lost Sammy for the year. If there is overlap, I'd like to see Sheehan given a run. For the reasons above. We need another shorter option in the backline.

Asos by the length of the straight if he has to be dropped down for Byrne. Losing Rowe will be tough to cover if jones can't beast at afl level. ASOS has to be there to help.

Having said that I'm not sure how rookie list works these days. Do we still get a nominated rookie who can play from the halfway point? If so I'd like to see Sheehan get a run in the seniors. But Lebois or hallucinating (galluci, wtf apple auto correct) would also be great if they're showing enough in the vfl.

Sheehan is no shorty. 188cm and carrying about 95kgs. and not the 88 as per the website.
Would love to see him given a go but maybe LeBois may be the player type we need more than anyone.

ASOS has to stay in the side now.

Given a choice of two it would be him and Sheehan if Injury Gods are sick of being cruel to him.

Byrne back 9th June after the VFL byes by the sounds so ASOS back on the rookie list.

Not sure what the date is (or if it still applies) for the upgrade of a rookie but ASOS to return for Rowe and the Sheehan next with LeBois the smokey after a consistent run (same for Galluci too) for the mid-season upgrade.

Can't they all be upgraded in the second half of the year?

I've googled around the rookie list rules, list size rules and so on and can't locate the answer. Perhaps Jimmae knows?
There's the LTI rule so ASOS might be the number one priority when Byrne resumes in the VFL so presumably he switches to Rowe's LTI spot. But if there is overlap, or we can upgrade a rookie from mid-season on then it's still Sheehan IMO.

Well since ASOS has been a vital cog of our backline in recent weeks, I'd prefer having him keep his spot, even with Byrne returning.

But I don't understand. Weren't clubs allowed to automatically nominate one rookie before the start of the season like the blues did previously with players such as Ed and Byrne when they were rookies. Did the AFL change that rule (because if they did, that sucks)?

No, just the one.

I believe the spirit of the rule was that they could be enacted after the half-way mark of the season, which I think is after R12 (June 11th) for us with our by being in R11.

So if Byrne is resuming in the VFL after the bye (June 10th), then the slot will be held open for ASOS to take.

Not sure anyone really deserves it on form, and we may only add Rowe to the injury list this week despite all the gloomy talk on here today, so there's no rush to elevate someone.

We usually go a 38 / 6 split with our list which allowed 2 nominated rookies at the start of the season, 1 last year with 39 / 5.
We're at 40 / 4 this year so no LTI's hace been the only upgrade mechanism available so far.

40/4 has slowly become the norm across the league, and it allows you to dip into the middle of the draft pool a bit more in your leaner years.

It makes sense to maximise your national draft selections as much as possible, subject to your TPP and the quality and stability of your best 30.

A. Silvagni a no-brainer. (Why "ASOS" by the way? Shouldn't it be COS (Cousin of Stephen) if we're going to persist with that theme? - Pronounced "Cuz".)

And Gus, it has to be. He deserves the chance, has done the hard yards like few others, getting to AFL standard and then getting back from serious injury. I want to see more of what he was showing before he got injured. I hope he's still got it!

Alex SOS, Jack SOS, Ben SOS and the third one who is far too young to be on anyone's radar.

Yes but, given SOS originally meant "Son of Serge" (or arguably "Son of Stephen" in Jack's case), it doesn't make sense when applied to Alex.
Hmmm, am I being too anal about this?

In Alex's case I take it as simply meaning, " A Son of Silvagni" :) Haven't heard that anywhere, just my way of rationalising it:)

I always Alex should be COSOS (cousin of Son of Serge) but everyone jumped on ASOS ...

The first I heard of 'ASOS', was when Bolton referred to him as such after his first game, saying that's what the guys at the club refer to him as. If that's what they call him then ASOS it is.

Jack should be SOSOS. But apparently the players call him SOJ.

Alex should be COSOS. Or alternatively... SCILOJ (Second cousin-in-law of Jo) :p

Enough of the nickname stuff.

It's a nickname there are no rules .

As for the question of rookies it would seem Alex Silvagni has it sewn up on performance. And why wouldn't he.

Watched Sheehan on the NBs replay again and he appears to be deliberately NOT running out of the backline in his last 3 games.

I can only assume this is part of his development, they possibly want him to work in his one on one defensive work and marking under pressure and use that lethal left peg for smart ball use on the last line of defence.

He did all this on Saturday.

Unfortunately there is no spot for him ATM .

Keeps it up and both he and Alex stay fit they could get on the senior list for 2018.
