Bloody Hell, sustained abuse of the umpires will not be tolerated this season, tougher penalities will be given to players who dispute their decisions. Yeah right that is unless the umpires little favourites want to dispute them, can just see James Hird copping a bit extra if he questions the umpires. Maybe it will be the way they ask it, "excuse me Mr umpire but..." or hey you a--sh--e what was that for. I want to agree that players shouldnt abuse the umpires, but for 60% of the game you just couldnt help yurself. Oh well looks like I will have to get closer to the fence this year in the hope that they might hear me. When do you think it will be law that the supporters are not allowed to abuse the umpires.

Daphne, shame on you for even suggesting such an unthinkable idea. We pay our money to see a decent game, not one ruined by overpaid, egomaniacal, wimpy, never played one quarter of footy in their lives umpires.

We should be allowed to voice our concerns over them. Believe me, we have lots of concerns. How would they police it? If a policy was introduced on crowd abuse could you imagine crowd attendances? Pretty small indeed.

Geisch would make a lot better impact if he told the fans exactly how the umpiring standard is going to be improved this year, not how they will "demand" respect. What frustrates player and fan alike is the constant tinkering with the rules, the constant shifting of emphasis from the rules board, and prima donna performances instead of the old fashioned let the game flow and call the free when it is there.

In the same statement, Geiaschen said the size of the cetre circle would be increased to prevent ruckmen bumping knees. God help us, what is the bloody game coming to? what's next, mudguards? Indibloodycators?

This is bullcrap. Most umpires have played footy and follow the game with passion, as I have done (play footy) and do (follow the game with passion). You shouldn't group all umpires together as one.
