With Ashcroft coming out today and saying the Suns felt as if they had the 'number 1 pick' acquired last year, I was just wondering whether you guys who saw more of the young blokes would agree?

Would you take O'Meara before Whitfield?

Also, if Crouch was available in this draft would he be rated below these 2?

Thanks

O'Meara. GC traded a lot for him and GWS were originally desperate to keep him.

Athletically he is one of the better draftees I have seen in a long time. Even as a 16 year old he had elite pace, leap and agility.

He can kick goals, has a low centre of gravity, excellent endurance, tackles like a machine, dual sided and is a dynamic clearance player. Does not quite have the footskills of Whitfield, nor the decision making, though he is still well above average in these areas.

Others say Daniher would have been the clear No1 pick.
all worthy of a top 3 spot.

I feel bad for GWS, imagine if there was no f/s and mini draft. There top 3 picks would be amazing

1. Joe Daniher
2. Jaeger O'Meara
3.Lachie Whitfield

How can you feel bad for a team that's had all the draft concessions imaginable? They're top 3 picks are still going to be amazing.

Don't feel too bad, I'd be happy with any of Grundy, Plowman, Menzel, Whitfield, or Toumpas.

Jaeger was rated as the better prospect this time last year, I believe. However, since O'Meara was unable to participate in the Champs, Combine or anything else where scouts get to see in 2012, it's hard to judge I guess. Safe to say, they're both pretty good. Crouch is a couple of rungs below.

The added bonus of course is that both O'Meara and Crouch (and other minidraft picks) will enter the season with two AFL pre-seasons under their belt. A big contrast to most draftees like Whitfield who will get the 2-3 months.

Not to mention the whole year spent with the team training and learning about recovery, diet, etc. etc. So you would think with that in mind, Jaeger and Crouch should have the bigger impact. Or at least be more well equipped to handle AFL footy than the standard draftee.

How can you feel bad for them? Top 3 picks after being given extra concessions over Gold Cost.. I guess now they'll have to settle for Whitfield, Toumpas and Menzel. What a shame.

O'Meara, mainly because he has had a year in the system. There was talk he was going to be #1 when he was 16 though. Immensely talented player.

Sunny

Not to mention Crouch has spent the year playing senior sanfl footy against bigger stronger and mature bodies

Will play from round 1 IMO

They only have the first 3 picks due to the mini-draft.

I don't feel bad for them at all.
Yep it would go something like:

No MD: Hoskin-Elliot, Sumner, Whitfield or O'Meara, other high 2013 pick or Martin/Hogan

With MD: Hoskin-Elliot + Sumner + Whitfield + #2 (Toumpas/O'Rourke?) + #3 (Plowman/Menzel?) + #14 (Grundy/Corr/etc?) + high 2013 pick + mid-1st compo, and no shot at O'Meara/Crouch/Martin/Hogan

I'll happily pass on O'Meara/Crouch and Martin/Hogan for that...

The mini - draft process has advantaged GWS more than anyone, as it was designed.

GWS lost access to O'Meara and Crouch as soon as they threw their hats into the process.

But Goldcoast haven't exactly come out behind because they have picked up two genuine enigma's.

O'Meara's speed, skill and strength combination is better than Swallows. Not as football smart as a junior but he breaks games open quicker.

In the WA v Vic Metro game last year there was only 4 players that stood out like dog balls. Coniglio, Patton, Tyson and O'Meara.

Whitfield was apparently BOG against WA this year but you just get this meh come across you, he was excellent. Would you spend pick one on him, sure. But after that game I would have rather have Jack Martin if he was available.

Crouch will come out next season and have a big impact.

Crouch would want to play better than he did in the SANFL grandy. Occasion got to him.
Yeah, no young players have off games at 18 years of age... Played plenty of good SANFL footy this year, including probably his best game for the year in the semi final against North where he was easily in the top 3 players on the ground.

Would have been selected ahead of Toumpas at pick 4 if Melbourne had the chance to select him this year, or most definitely at pick 5 to the Bulldogs. Don't think GWS would have selected him.

It was the wrong time to have an off game, if there is a right time to have an off game.

Let's be honest here, the entire West Adelaide Football Club had an off game. Norwood absolutely smashed them all over the ground.

Being the staunch Redleg I am, it was a great day.

What are your views on Norwood's Jack Oatey Medallist winner Dean Terlich ?
Extremely hardworking, completely remodelled his game from a forward approaching dud level to a very good rebounding defender. Reasonable skills, above average kick. Has earnt his second chance at AFL level.

As Headache said, the entire Bloods side was terrible. I was there, and it was god awful to watch. Even Norwood were pretty poor to be honest.

Crouch's prelim was absolutely awesome, and the majority of the season he played very well. He managed to rack up 20 disposals nearly every week, so I'm pretty confident he'll deliver in his first season at the Crows.
