I had an argument with a workmate today about Chris Cornell, and what he has accomplished in the musical industry. My workmate said that Cornell was surrounded by good players, which in turn made him good.

My reply to his idiotic blabble was:

He then stated that Morello has more talent in his left hand, than Cornell has overall.

My reply to that was also

What are the members of Big Footy opinions on this?

Cornell has never ruined a song with his vocals.

Morello has ruined many with his guitar.

Agree, Cornell is one of the best vocalists ever, Morello is a unique guitarist, but is nowhere near Cornell in terms of accomplishments and ability IMO.
That as well as the only reason Audioslave was no good was because of Morello's guitar work

Morello, near as I can tell, is a creative and technically gifted musician whose particular style gives me the ****s.

While Cornell has been fortunate to work with a number of talented musicians, he is undoubtedly their equal.

who?

Cornell wrote 99% of Soundgardens songs, Matt Cameron maybe talented but that hasn't made Cornell a better vocalist then what he is.

Perfectly put.

Morello has his thing which worked well in RATM, but the Audioslave thing exposed him as pretty much one trick pony, and that trick became pretty old pretty quickly. Ripping off Led Zep riffs and throwing in silly sounding solos with zero musicality, sense of placement or feel for the song never did a heap for me and i'm really happy its over.

I think my thoughts on Cornell are pretty well known so i wont go into that except to say that its a ridiculous comparison. I just wish he'd never gotten involved in the Audioslave thing and had continued on from his superb Euphoria Morning solo work.

Far be it for me to speak for Mr Eagle, but it might be worth going back and re-reading what he wrote dude, especially the "he is undoubtedly their equal" bit. ;)

Scrap that, Cornell is so far ahead of Morrello it isn't funny, tell you're work mate he is a complete moron and knows nothing.
Morrello is one of many good guitarists as his peers, where as not many are equal to Cornell

Listening to Audioslave at the moment actually.
Morello's playing on the first album is pretty good. He's a little different but it works. Unfortunately on the following 2 albums he goes off on some funk crap style which just kills the songs. His solo's are plain embarrassing.

First Audoslave album is a top quality album IMO.
I rate it highly.

Like I have said a number of times on here; if Audioslave had a decent guitarist they would be one of the best bands in the world today.
Top drummer, top bassist and top singer. They just could have done without Morello's crap solo's and unlistenable sounds.

I think it's a pretty ridiculous comparison and consider Audioslave possibly the worst mismatch in music history. I mean, really, what were they thinking? The Rage boys would have been a lot better off getting another rapper. That said, some of the vitriol on here towards Morello is astounding, he's a genuinely good guitarist (you only have to listen to some of his RATM self titled solos to hear that), but the problem was that he was just a mismatch to Chris Cornell's vocals. Tim and Brad are so tight now that they're almost a rhythm section for hire and could work together amazingly in any band, but Tom Morello is obviously a bit of a stronger force when it comes to writing and is best at what he knows. He also probably suffers having to share his riffs with a vocal line, whereas in Rage there was a rapper so he didn't have to share melodies or compete as much. Chris Cornell, however, is an amazing vocalist and probably would work better with a more traditional band rather than almost a hip hop band. I personally think Cornell should have stuck with his solo career and the RATM guys should have just gotten guest rappers if they wanted to continue, and waited for Zach to come around (he basically left the band on a whim). So really I think it's unfair to compare the two.

True - its like "I have got a new effects pedal I want to try out" - even though it is annoying and ruins the songs

They should have got a black rapper - would have been great to get Ice T! Born Dead!
