We have had plenty of threads over who will be the best out of all our young guns? But who in particular are you watching out for in 2004? For me it's Dal Santo. Love watching this guy play, his few games at the end of the year were just teasing Saints fans about how good he can be. Would love to see him have a big pre season and play 22 games.

Special mention to Ball.

I really like Xavier Clarke. Very unpredictable around the ball and can do something with it when he gets hold of it.
As soon as he learned not to try for a screamer with every kick that came his way, he was just magic!
Looking forward to all the efforts of our young guns in '04!

I would have to say Xavier Clarke as well.
He is an amazing player who has already showed some of his great skills and has many more years of these skills still to come.
The mark he took in round 5 or 6, I can't remember exactly what round was the start of when I actully really realised his full talents. Since then he has proven he can play down forward or down back.
I look forward to many more exciting years to come watching him play.
Ball, BJ and Dal will be players to also watch out for.

As Sav and Sainter can attest to, I think Dal Santo is the best thing since sliced bread (and is the best kick in the team, Goddard included).

I have no idea what you are talking about. ;)

I'd rather just sit back and marvel at the young talent we've got at the club than go to the effort of singling out one or two.

If I really had too, I'd probably say Luke Ball. With the possible exception of Riewoldt he'll be the best of all our youngsters. It won't be a surprise to Saints fans when the opposition start to realise that we picked him before Judd for a reason.

Note - Goddard is a better kick than Dal Santo

Ooh tough choice, but first thing in my mind is ROBERT HARVEY. I love it when he has the footy, you know he's going to do something productive with it. He caresses the footy like its a lady.

id have to say dal santo. i love watching him simply because he looks like hes got all the space and time in the world! i also think montagna could be somethin special too...see how he goes

Its all about Milney here. When he is on fire, and even when he isn't, whenever he goes within 5 feet of the ball, it seems everyone is wondering what he'll do with it when he gets it. I reckon hes the Human Highlight Reel.

I'm an Essendon supporter but i really like the look of Dal Santo. I'd love to have him at Essendon. I really think the next few years he will really step up and be in the top 6 players at the Saints

oh my god i forgot about milne n hes my fav playa!
id have to say hes the 1 that trully makes me jump off my seat every time he touched the ball n he also makes my heart pound every time he goes near it. n when he moves with the ball you dont know what hes gunna do next n i love that. i also love how he knows where the goals are, if he wore a blind fld hed still manage to slot it through the goals!

I'm worried about your team - your not going to fit all this young talent into the cap one day.

Good luck to you.

Also I'll go with Luke Ball.

Nick Riewoldt is the complete footballer. Nowhere in the AFL can anyone claim to be his equal. His marking ability and general play make him so valuable to St Kilda that he is targeted each week.

Hayes is fantastic - our hardest worker and along with Harvey a joy to watch.

I think Dal is a natural - no wonder his nick "Matrix" comes to mind - he doesn't look as if he's trying too hard, just jogging with the ball checking out options, but you also see that no-one's catching up, then he casually weaves and slots it to his intended target.

Ball is good too, another Harvey in the making, when he's not on the field, St Kilda dont look as good. His work rate isn't Harveyesque just yet but woe betide the opposition when he gets there.

Milne is flashy and great, I want him to be all he can be and at his best he is a game winner.

X is in the same mould - brilliant but not always in the thick of it.
I want him to carry the ball more, sure he'll get caught a few times but a confidence player needs to take chances. If he gets on a run, wow he'll be a game smasher.

But the player I look to for excitement most, is the man mountain himself, Fraser Gehrig. He is great, he can turn a game with his exceptional marking and great mobility. If he has gotten over his lower limb injury problems, he may even take out the Coleman.

I watched him closely during 2003 and there were several times he played on or took silly options. Being a full forward clearly isn't natural for him and he is still learning. He is now wiser and cooler and is growing even better. If the ball is in the air in our forward line I feel confident now (whereas I often thought we needed to take the lower percentage options from further out before)

Fraser is the man

Good stuff StKildonan. Fraser could well be a measure of how good we go next year, a big year from him could well mean finals. However a injury interupted year from Fraser could well mean a season of 9-11 wins, which wont get us far.

I'm looking forward to seeing what impact a fresh and fit Fraser Gehrig can make on the competition. I'm not sure if he has completed a preseason with us yet. He's looking good for us this year. I can't wait.

Aside from a naked Liv Tyler, what most excites me is Leigh Montagna. Partly because he's less well-known than the rest, he could take a few more teams by surprise while they're watching Ball, Goddard, Lenny, Dal etc.

What about this for some excitement then

Jones, Hudgton,Maguire
Goddard,Penny,Voss
DalSanto,Hayes,Ball
RClarke,Riewoldt,Hamill
XClarke,Gehrig,Milne
Kozitche, Harvey,Powell
Baker,Brooks,Gierra,Black

Out of the young guys, Brendon Goddard. Watching him play is like having a flash back of watching James Hird play. He has superstar written all over him, and his skills are already made.

Overall, Fraser Gehrig. When you see the ball get kicked down into the forward 50, you look straight for Fraser, as he's just about to take a strong mark over 2 opponents. Although, it's scary watching him play on. He should just mark it and slot it through. Sometimes tries to be too fancy, but I prefer that. It shows his confidence. Fraser Gehrig should be captain of the Saints in 2004. I've heard so many supporters bad mouth him, and to see him play through so many injuries and serious pain, this guy is dedicated to the Saints. Making him captain will give him the respect he deserves. His leadership on-feild is grade A. Make him captain! :D
