Who the #&$@ is Mel Winnen???

Does Mel Winnen deserve a spot in the AFL Hall of Fame?

  • Shit no! Who is this no-name imposter??

  • Yes, only on the basis of his cool name, he probably couldn't play footy for shit.

  • Yes, we Victorians are used to handing out charity to our surrounding lesser-states.

  • Jack Watts would limit the HOF to Victorians only, as ours is the only footy state that matters.

So these are the new AFL Hall of fame inductees. I considered trusting the AFL not to **** it up for once and thankfully my better instincts told me not to because sure enough they've done it again. Gill must have his fingerprints on this one because lately everything he's touched has turned to shit.

Right, let's go through them.

Neitz: Worthy of admission purely on the rarity of being a great player who also for played Melbourne this century. CHECK
Scarlett: Toe poke that prevented a St.Kilda Premiership, hard to argue with that. CHECK
Wallace: Endless lolz for selecting Tambling & selfless dedication to the tanning bed industry. CHECK
Johnston: Greasy & arrogant enough to perfectly embody the Carlton Crew power years. CHECK
Sheedy: Responsible for the rise of James Hird and thus the eventual destruction of Essendon*'s culture & reputation. CHECK
Winnen: Who is this no-name imposter??

Right so the AFL did an article on him. Turns out this crusty old coot played ZERO VFL/AFL games!!

His entire football history is composed of playing a bunch of meaningless games in an irrelevant WA state league nobody who matters cared about. So why on earth is a backwater league nothing-player ushered into football's most hallowed echelon of stars?

If this bloke was any good he would've been playing in the VFL like every genuine star player in the country. Instead he chose to remain in obscurity, in a state that remained irrelevant for over 100 years until the mining boom. Frankly he sounds like a ******* loser and I've no idea why we Victorians invite such trash into our Hall of Fame when he was never good enough to compete in this state in the first place.
Back in the day the WAFL was a better standard than the VFL. So it would mean nothing to old mate Winno.

According to the players both the WAFL and SANFL were better quality of footy leagues than the VFL. That's why VFL clubs had trouble holding onto good 'interstate' players. It's not rocket science flog.
The VFL was ALWAYS a higher standard league than the WAFL & SANFL. Source: Everyone who watched football in that era who isn't a chip-on-the-shoulder interstate flog.

Both WA & SA minnow states have proven this themselves by buying VFL (later AFL) licenses and entering teams in our competition. ;)

Every year the AFL throws minnow states a bone by including one of their obscure provincial footballers in our Hall of Fame. Why I can't imagine, since we already have your license fees in our pockets and are hardly obliged to buy your loyalty to our league with such trifles.

See Bosky this is where you're wrong. The VFL begged us interstaters to come and play in your lower standard league.

Nice try tho friend :thumbsu:

Except if that were really the case, interest in your state league would not have fallen off a cliff after you joined the VFL/AFL. :D

You fool.

The best players from SA and WA traveled east to play in the VFL. Dozens every year.

How many went the other way? None.

And yet you can still find a way to believe that your pissy little comp was BETTER, even without it's best players.

Why not try something believable. Like the original Eagles turned from a bunch of 90 pound weaklings into 22 Hulks over one pre season due to good wholesome living.

Fair melt friend.

Yep interstaters might of travelled to play a few games but most of the time they returned to their superior leagues back home.

I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognise Missourah Vandenberg
On footballing ability he shouldn't even be allowed to stand across the road from the ceremony, but for belting Hird and a dozen other assorted drug cheats he deserves something... err, maybe a nice box of chocolates?
So Mel gets in the Hall of Fame before John Kennedy Snr and Michael Tuck
John Kennedy SNR isnt in????
You are ******* kidding me.

Thanks mate, I needed a laugh.

Lol. Waffle defender.

Didn't they still sacrifice lambs on the altar before games in the Waffle back in the days of good ol' Mel?

Lol at the hole diggers thinking that the WAFL was a superior league.
Would be about equal in standard to the Horsham District FL.
Horsham District FL is at least on the right side of the border. Imagine playing in the middle of nowhere on the other side of a desert!
