Time to stick our necks out and predict who should get the chop at the end of the year.
Now how many draft picks will we want? It is a relatively crap draft apparently (although they say that every year except 2001). Last year we got 6 new players, 4 from draft, 1 from PSD and 1 from trade.
I reckon this is how this years departures will unfold:

Delistings:
David King
Andrew Williams
Matthew Lokan
Billy Morrison
Zane Leonard (Rookie)

Trade if not delist:
Tristen Walker - Could attract some attention as a youngish key possie player and might get a draft pick or use him as part of a deal to get some player.
Leon Davis - Just try to get anything for him.

Possible Trade Bait:
Richard Cole - Use only to attract a good player.
Ryan Lonie - Again could be used as part of some deal, or just be shopped around for a draft pick. I wouldn't dare delist him for nothing though.
Guy Richards - See Cole.

Ok so thats around 7-8 spots in the list availble. 1 should be for a traded player whoever it may be, 1 for a psd pick and 5-6 draft picks. Although depending on who is availble in the PSD we may use that spot to promote Fanning.

Thats about right although I wouldnt be surprised to see Richards delisted/traded if he cant get on the park before the end of year. I'd like to keep Walker but his form seems to get worse and worse. Fanning is a certainty for promotion.

Cole is our best trade bait, but I'd also consider Fraser if a suitably attractive player became free. Lonie is worthless as trade bait, and a decision must be made whether you retain or delist.

no one will want walker i have only seen him play one good game and that was again richo that year

i think he should go no matter what this year, i think guy richards will stay so fraser can play more up forward.

i think there might be some interest in lonie or cole i honestly dont think that we have the best bait though.

unless someone wants J.cloke, im abit unsure if we should get rid of him yet coz his brothers might follow suit and want to leave.

That's about on the mark. Fanning will be promoted as his 2 rookie years are up. I'd add Woewodin to the trade list and if we could do a decent deal for he and Lockyer to Freo for a draft pick upgrade it would be handy. I'd be happy with Walker, Woewodin and Lockyer plus our 3rd round pick for Freo's first but I doubt they'd do it. I'd use our second rounder in that deal instead of the 3rd if that could get the deal done but again I doubt it. O'Bree should be traded if we can get a deal for him. So long as we keep him he will be selected and he will play the odd good game but week in week out his average performance is not effective enough. Hall would have to wory about his spot if he doesn't show more soon. 2 years isn't a huge amount of time but we would want to see some real signs to persist.

If we could snare a Judd or a Dal Santo then Tarrant should be up for grabs as should Fraser but the club wouldn't trade either. If we could get something for Chad Morrison I'd be happy but I'm just wishing here.

We have to get a decent midfielder from another club as well as snare a bargain trade who comes good and the draft a couple with at least one being early. Then we’ll just have the ruck to worry about but nothing new there.

The bottom line is we will have 2 seasons in the bottom 4 to 6. We must have around 10 players that aren’t good enough as a minimum so that has to be the turnover target at least.

At this stage, each year, you need to clear at least four spaces on the senior list. This year, I would say we may need at least 5, as I would say that we will be looking to keep David Fanning, and to do so we'd have to promote him to the senior list.

We'll have at least 4 draft picks, probably 5 if we want a PSD pick, or even an extra National Draft pick. I'd say that we'd probably look for trades for Richard Cole, Ryan Lonie and Leon Davis, with Essendon a possible home for Cole, with maybe a 3rd round draft pick in return.

The obvious de-listings are Andrew Williams, Matthew Lokan and David King. Those three guys are rubbish, they're out of contract and they wouldn't net anything in a trade. Tristen Walker I see being gone too, he's too old to be a project any more, but there's no shame in spending a few years on such a talented player, given that he was pick #72 or something of that order.

That would mean we de-list Williams, Lokan, King, Walker, Davis and Lonie.

Then we have 5 draft picks across the National and Pre-Season drafts, and one spot to elevate David Fanning onto the senior list.

Obviously, Zane Leonard will be de-listed from the rookie list as well, considering that he just can't get healthy, with two new rookies to be brought in, and Harry O'Brien and Ben Davies to be kept on for their second years.

I think that would be fair.

I would try and trade Guy Richards at the end of the year. Fraser will have 30% of the ruck duties, and I'd like to see Fanning and Cameron Cloke share the rest of the ruck duties.

With Ben Davies and David Fanning likely to be promoted to the senior list full time it means that seven players have to be culled. These are my choices to go and my players to look for a trade.

Delists: Woewodin, Davidson, Williams, Lokan, King, B.Morrison?, Hall?, Leonard.
Trade Bait: Davis, Woewodin, Lonie, O'Bree, Walker, Cole, Lockyer?
On notice for next season: C.Morrison, J.Cloke, C.Cloke, Swan, B. Shaw, H.Shaw

Woewodin should go this year. He can still be a fairly good player and his skills are still pretty good but the fact is he is too slow, soft and we simply need to open up a spot in midfield for a youngster with pace.

Davidson has talent but he's body can't hold up for the rigors of AFL. Ditto for Leonard.

Williams, Lokan & King no explanation is necessary.

B Morrison & Hall have both been on Collingwood's lists for about three seasons and really they haven't impress me at all. They should be dominating at Willy but both of them have regular stints in the Willy reserves. Given that they were both drafted as long term project I would maybe give them another season if they show something in the second half of the season.

I'll go through these players below and tell you all my throughts.

Woewodin - Has to be traded, and I think to Freo. Woey while a runner up in the B&F last year and could return to his best I think wants to go home. He won't fit into the WC side so I think go looking for a deal with freo and try to bring home a Victorian.

Davidson - Has to be kept for 2 reasons, Mick gave his word when he went down in his only AFL game, and the other is in those 15 minutes that he played, he showed a lot. Must be given a chance to prove himself.

Williams - Gone! won't be playing in the AFL next year

Lokan - Not gone yet, but getting closer, maybe with shaw going down he can get a spot on the HBF and some of that form from 03.

King - Has shown little in his time, won't be around next year

B.Morrison - Hasn't been given many chances, if he doesn't get any in the second half of the year he'll leave on his own

Hall - Won't play this year.

Leonard - Same.

Davis - Could be a great midfielder once he gets his tank up. was starting to show something before he got hurt, just needs to play 41/4's at willy to get back into the side, maybe now that Shaw is out he can break back in.

Lonie - I think we should look for a trade with him, he's a good player but just doesn't fit into the Collingwood side, We should also try him on the HFF given his skill near goal.

O'Bree - Too old, too slow. Won't be at Collingwood next year.

Walker - Too slow, too dumb, has to be traded!

Cole - can play, but we should look for a trade, his family are Essendon people and I know they wanted him, look there.

Lockyer - Gotta keep him, he might not be as good as 02, but the bloke gives 100% every week and is great for the kids to be around.

C.Morrison - Mick won't trade him, will be at the club next year.

J.Cloke - May go, but I say let him play the 3rd man in role and he'll be ok

C.Cloke - Needs the fat camp, I think he'll be great for the club in 3 years, keep the kid and give him a chance.

Swan - Found his spot on the 2nd small forward, was beaten by Yze. but he beats 90% of players.

B. Shaw - Hasn't been given a chance yet, plus he still has a year to go before we can make any move

H.Shaw - as above.

Alongside Hasleby and Bell he'd actually look a little quicker.

Tristan walker + c. cloke (even tho very unlikley) to the bulldog -giansiracusa, coz they need the height!

woewodin (must be traded because he is rotting away), obree, Davis all trade bait

Cole- trade to essendon for kepler bradley! we need a kpp CHB for the future and he looks the goods.

or cole to port for salopak

chris tarrant plus our first pick (lets say pick 6 or 7) - fevola and there pick 3??? it gives us teh chance to pick up the best midfielder as projections suggest that this years draft will be ********e!

DELIST:
KIng, williams, j cloke (even tho very unlikely), Hall

None of those trades are mildly realistic.

magpies42....what are you smoking?

Walker wont be going anywhere...just signed him on for 2 years, why bother doing that then shafting him??

O'Bree is playing good footy at moment and is lifting his trade value, they will most likely keep him unless they feel they are getting a good deal for him if any other side wants him

Williams is gone, Lokan will be struggling although he is pulling his finger out of late, King might be given another chance

Jason and Cam will both be there, as will Davidson, Richards, Hall, Brayden and Heath, and maybe Billy Morrison

Davies will stay rookie....Fanning will be promoted, perhpas Richards will be nudged out if this happens although i dont think Richards going is likely

will be interesting to see what happens with Lonie and Davis

What the duck? Malthouse will not trade two young talls for a geeky midfielder.

........... you must be kidding. Essendon wouldn't trade Kepler for 95% of the AFL.

End yourself.

No point classifying players as delist/trade, etc, as that's not really up to us - all we can do is throw the names out there, but the market will decide if they have currency. I know that we can't turn over the whole list, but I would be happy to get rid of any combination of the following list (delisted or traded - don't really care):

Lockyer (weakest squib in B&W ever), Andrew Williams (super dud), Matthew Lokan (same as Williams but a touch more ticker), David King (just not up to it), Shane O'Bree (turnover merchant), Leon Davis (one good game per season not good enough), Richie Cole (had enough chances), Shane Woewodin (slow and soft), Chad Morrison (O'Bree with wonky knees - slow), with Walker and Lonie both on very thin ice.

They are not the worst 9 players on the list, but they are the ones who have had ample time to show their wares and have convinced me they are just not up to it.

well to answer your queries, if you actually use your brains and think about it you might undersatnd and not ridicule! OUr midfield is obviously lacking?! so, in the age of teh salary cap to fill this gap you have to sacrifice in other areas where you are stronger eg our forward line! it seems to me that fevola isnt all that happy at carlton and that tarrant isnt exactly the happiest at collingwood, so i think trading tarrant who is a better player for fevola who is decsent and plus getting the pick of the best midfielder in the draft we fix two problems!
This is because Tarrant will never be used properly by us. the reasons are obvious ie.until our midfield shapes up (delivery and speed) he will not get the opurtunity to shine! I am not saying tarrant isnt good, i rate him seocnd best behind lloyd, but i think teh signs are there that he isnt happy and rightly so mind u his temperment coudl leed to him leaving football forever!

As for the rest of the trades: giansiracusa is a top notch playernot a geeky midfielder!

COle going to essendon isnt that unlikely! coz they need speed, and cole could end up being very good one day! sure kepler shows more promise now but so did cole last year! andi would give cole plus a pick or another fringe player for him

Cole and Fraser for Brogan- Port may be stupid enough to take this

Walker unfortunately cannot be traded, stupid move by the club to re sign him early in the year, has gotten ********ter and ********ter since then

J.Cloke to Essendon for 2nd rd pick

Delist: Woey, Williams, Lokan, King

Promote: Fanning, O'Brien

That leaves us with 5 picks which is plenty, 4 in the draft and 1 PSD pick

Port are stupid, but they aren't that stupid.

Who would take Woewodin? At the present moment I am not sure if we could trade him, I have a feeling Williams will be delisted, O'Bree has played a few good games this year, he probably did enough to save himself.

Maybe we coukld trade Woewodin to Fremantle, with their trading, they might take him.

Trade Fraser??????
Trade Tarrant?????

What world are you lot living in.

Still it did give me a laugh.

I cant see how those trades can be funny.Tarrants form has been awfully inconsistant and clearly cant play full forward and Fraser is as weak as p1ss when he actually gets out on the park and does play footy. He is not a ruckman and gets pushed off the ball far too easily.I think if the right trade came along trading Tarrant and Fraser is definately worth consideration

A lions supporter that follows Collingwood more closely than his/her own club.
Why doesn't that surprise me
