Tom Sheridan

From: (Calder Connons, Vic)
DOB: 28/10/93
Height: 185cm
Weight: 76Kg

KEVIN SHEEHAN SAYS

"Represented Vic Metro at NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 14 possessions. Good endurance and can bring others into the game by clever use of the ball. From Riddells Creek FC."

Sam Kerridge

Height: 188cm
Weight: 86kg
DOB: 26/4/93
Club: Bendigo Pioneers
Draft range: 25-35
The Crows need to replenish their tall stocks, but the prospect of adding courageous onballer Kerridge here is enough to put the key position search on hold until later. Kerridge was asked to do a lot in a struggling Bendigo team this year, but rose to the task admirably. He's a good height for a midfielder, has a huge tank, and can go forward and kick a goal. He's a powerfully built lad who is strong overhead and can win his own ball with a turn of speed to break away from packs. Adelaide would have also looked long and hard at local lad and All Australian half-back flanker Alex Forster here.

and for Pick 44:

Ben Brown

From: (Glenorchy, TAS)
Date of birth: 20/11/92
Height: 198cm
Weight: 89Kg

KEVIN SHEEHAN SAYS

"Averaged 11.7 hit-outs and 3.3 clearances at U18 champs.
Strong marking player with an impressive natural leap.
From St Brendan’s Shaw College."

Alex Woodward:

From: (Sandringham Dragons, Vic)
DOB: 11/06/93
Height: 179cm
Weight: 79Kg

KEVIN SHEEHAN SAYS

"Vic Metro U18 rep. Inside mid who reads play and uses ball well. Great work ethic, excellent in the air. Extremely team-oriented. From Dingley JFC."

Julian Dobosz

Height: 193cm
Weight: 85kg
DOB: 17/11/92
Club: North Hobart (TAS)

Kevin Sheehan says: Very smart player inside 50 averaging 3.8 goals in 4 matches in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. Reads the ball well in flight, positions himself cleverly in the marking contest, has sure hands and an accurate shot for goal.

Shane Nelson

From: (West Perth, WA)
DOB: 11/05/93
Height: 179
Weight: 73

KEVIN SHEEHAN SAYS

,, Averaged 22 disposals at U18 champs. Effective user who works tirelessly. Has speed, can play midfield and move forward and kick goals. From Edgewater Woodvale JFC.

Fraser McInness

Height: 196cm
Weight: 91kg
DOB: 19/7/93
Club: Perth
Draft range: 25-45
McInnes is an excellent tall prospect that many have rated higher than this, but he falls into Carlton's lap here. The West Australian left footer joins the growing batch of talls in the nursery at Visy Park, where his versatility will be a huge bonus. He couldn't showcase his talents for WA at the national championships due to an ankle injury and his absence was a key reason for the team's struggles.

Hopefully that is enough to put an end to the filth at the top of the page

EDIT: Also helpful

Hope you enjoy the draft B and S...

I think you will find that it is the poorest draft ever but this will not be said out loud as it embarrasses the under 18 comp. and the AFL...

After pick 3 it's a raffle, this is why some clubs have given up their 1st and 2nd picks for recycled players...

Don't care who we pick up unless its a mature age player as its a stab in the dark to pick up a decent 18 year old...

Can't be the poorest draft ever. The early ones were littered with guys taken high that never fired a shot. Richmond once took a 26 year old SA ruckman at 1 who played 3 games.

Lots of interesting prospects, who fall into the category of talented but has weaknesses in one area or another. Clay Smith has iffy disposal but won't die wondering and a good turn of pace for an inside mid. Brad Hill is excellent athletically but lacks composure. Brad Mckenzie has a wonderful kick but poor endurance.

A lot of project players this year

How poor can poor be?
We all concede that 2003 was the worst in recent times, but you just wonder how talent can drop off to that extent, from one year to another.
Players 21 - 29 from that draft are not even on any teams list any more.
Hope it's not 2003 bad, but then again if it is, it is for all, so it does level out from that perspective.

2003 was very poor...

Because of the drain by GWS and the 17 y/o that were taken last year and the lack of real quality depth, the draft is dreadful.

Picks 10-20 in this years draft are rated as 35 plus in last years draft, from what I've been told!;)

Blues okay at 22 and 44

With the club already committed to Dylan Buckley with selection 62 under the father/son rule, and only two selections remaining for Carlton in the countdown to tomorrow night’s 2011 AFL National Draft in Sydney, The Age’s football writer and respected draft analyst Emma Quayle believes the Blues can land two significant recruits at 22 and 44 respectively.

In fact, Quayle is of the view that with its first selection Carlton could quite easily secure a player who slips through the net.
And she volunteered the name of Perth’s Fraser McInnes as a potential pick 22 player.

We have no real "list need". Just hoping some top-end talent slips and we pounce, like what happened last year. We'll probably see the non-Carlton clubs aggressively target mature-aged recruits after the Nick Duigan success story. Not convinced we'll go down that path again this year especially with both picks under 50.

:)

I have a sneaky feeling that we might go down that path again!

Yeh absolutely, even sneakier feeling other clubs will do the same.

Duigan has been so successful

I still reckon we can get a top-10 pick like talent at 22. This is because, even though GWS have a truckload of high draft picks, their list management expertise is understandably bottom 4 quality, meaning they'll make quite a few stuff ups, especially beyond the top-4 or 5. We also have clubs like Richmond, and Brisbane ahead of us in the draft, who rarely make good draft choices. So the odds a top-quality player slipping to us is decent. This happened last year, plus we had the unusual situation of clubs using high draft picks on as-needs-basis mids, while letting more talented talls slip. This is why we cleaned up in the last draft.

:)
