When I was in primary school, all the kids seemed to support Hawthorn, Essendon or Carlton.

But when they were playing full forward at lunchtime, everyone pretended to be Snake! Especially the after goal celebrations!

When you grow up supporting a s**t team that used to be awesome, you hold onto what little shining light there was. And he was an utter star, and I love that he's a genuinely good bloke, too.

When I was very young, I had Dunstall as my favourite, but Hawks were already fading by then. I love digging up old footage of the 80s Hawks and watching them. As fantastic as the 3-peat team was, they weren't even the best team in Hawthorn's history.
