Supercoach has only been going for 4 years but as yet no player (AFAIK) has managed to top 120 points in more than one year.

Quite a few players have achieved the feat once: Judd, Hodge, Ablett, Bartel, Brown (in 10 games), Bowden, Cornes, Goodes, Cousins and probably a few more.

Who do you think will avverage more than 120 this year? Will one of the above repeat? Or will another (Pendlebury, Kerr, Deledio, Franklin, Burgoyne) come out of the packs?

I will go with Joel MacDonald and Lance Franklin.

Judd wont, he has only averaged over 120 once, and that was WCE premiership year, when they only lost 3-4 games, cant see that happening at Carlton.

Pavlich's highest was 115.6 as an avg, so he is a chance given Freo has to improve on last year.

Ablett averaged 132 last year, so it would be a surprise if he didnt get at least 120 this year.

Bartel is likewise, 115 last year, 125.8 in 07, so he will go close.

Pendlebury will average over 110, after passing the 100 mark last year, but will probably fail to reach 120.

Franklin, I would say no, just has the odd game where he can get a 40 or 50, which almost rules out a 120, I'd say 105-115.

Riewoldt is the other chance, over 110 avg 3 years in a row, and Saints will be up there again, if he is fot for round 1, he will go close.

Hodge is my pick to go above it, even if he starts slow, with a lot of free possesions down back, 120 is a real target.

110 is the target average I have for my superstars, if all my 500k + players can get close to that, I'll be happy.

I think:

Chapman, Gibbs and Goddard are a decent chance. All three take marks and have the footskills to score in a 120 average.

It looks like it generally is the creme de la creme that averages of 120. Given that,
  • Ablett is a monty for mine if he can stay on the park
  • Judd was well on track to average 120 in 07 before he stuffed his groins, I wouldn't put it past him to do it again
  • Bartel looks fired up for another huge year
Smokies:
  • Gibbs has all the right assets, just a matter of when
  • Tuck has shown he can score big and is in a team on the rise
  • Pendles - see Gibbs comment
  • Cox is a freak, it just wouldn't surprise me.

Presti ... will bounce back from a dissapointing supercoach career to be the highest scoring player of 2009 ;)

History would suggest they will come from top 4 sides so count out the likes of Judd.

For me the best chances in 09:

- Hodge (injury permitting will be the highest scoring player in the comp for mine, his averages after moving back were huge)

- Ablett (no explanation needed)

- Bartel (proven, geelong will be up there again for sure)

- Buddy (take out a few frees and he'd be there already. Improve like most 22 year old do and his scores could be scary)

- Riewoldt (second half of year averaged over 120, should continue. At his peak)

One from left field

Luke Ball - had a 116 average 4 years ago, 100 last year and is in his best shape since starting AFL football, also assumes greater responsibility with Harvey gone, even on his bad days will amass tackle after tackle.

Good pick up. I suspect if he averaged 95 last year he would be in everyone's team. Still a lot of upside at his price though.

I doubt it. Coming off surgery and no pre-season to speak of would suggest he'll start slowly.

It was tough, but I finally decided to take him out of my side.

Hodge is a superstar no doubt but I would much rather start with Ablett and have Goddard in the backline instead of Hodge who I think will have a similar year anyways plus he is alot fitter at this stage of the year too.

Hodge is a must get though after about 4 or 5 rounds I reckon he will be ripe for bringing into your team.

If only Bally could kick. Could be Cross like or Kirk like is he stays in one shape but won't ever be a 120 player as his disposal lets him down.

His disposal was no better 4 years ago

Better supercoach options at the same price or cheaper for mine. Love the bloke and his value to the saints is immeasurable. But he's not durable and his disposal isn't great.

That is a big call on Goddard I don't honestly see him increasing his average by a minimum of 17, especially seeing as though he might start getting tagged. I don't see how Goddard seasons is going to be better than Judd and Bartel's last.

Actually it was better 4 years ago. He lost a lot of penetration in his kicking from the OP. I am yet to see that back.

He never had any

If he stays on the park, Drummond...

IF

good call. drummond is all class and will be a supercoach standout if he can stay out there. apparently has done some different things over summer with a new running coach aimed at altering his running action slightly and strengthening his quads that have given him so much trouble in the past. he will be a steal at $481K if he can stay fit
